04 Saturn Vue - turn signal keeps clicking even when there's no signal on

I have a 2004 Saturn Vue and the dang turn signal keeps clicking even when there's no signal on. It was mostly just annoying until later that day. All of sudden I had smoke coming from my steering wheel column.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with this clicking problem and any ideas on how to fix it.

Sounds like something is shorting out on your steering column. You can try taking the covers off the steering column and trying to duplicate the problem and see where the smoke is coming from.

Sounds like a bad turn signal switch(Combination Switch) and possible connector/wiring damage.

Sounds like you need a new switch. Look over at saturn parts (http://www.saturnpartsnow.com)and see what a new one cost, otherwise check the junk yard.

was the smoke coming from the steering column or the vents? because vues have a problem with the heater core leaking and the coolant burning and blowing back thru the vents. If its coming thru the vents, just look behind the center console and you will more than likely see coolant leaking if thats the problem. BUT it could also be coming from the steering column. hope this helps.
