Steering Wheel Changing...

I have a 95 Civic EX, and as you know it comes with the Cruise Control buttons in the Steering Wheel. If I were to change the steering wheel, what will happen to the cruise control?, will I have to get rid of it? or could it be removed and placed somewhere else, any advice?

Thanx!

Yeah, you can move that, but you cant move your airbag. Airbags save lives, you should deeply consider this.

sure they do! but I'm not changin the wheel but after putting some racing seats and a 4 or 5 point harness.

By the way, 4 or 5 Point harnesses are bolted to the floor of the rear seats right? correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanx!

I'm not sure how there mounted but have you ever used them? They suck!!!! Unless your using them for autocross or stickly drag racing. There a pain in the ass to but on and there really unconfertable, just my 2 cents:D

be carefull working with airbags.... they can be damn tricky, and a small electric shock can set them off, and that sucker is an expensive replacement... ($1000 so I am told) if you do wnat to get rid of it, sell that thing on ebay, you can make some dough off it.. and there are different ways for the 4 and 5 point harnesses, some people/modders I have seen used the back seat cross bar (stiffining bar) and looped the belt over that, really depends on what you want to do.. I'd rather just get bucket seats, and keep my regular seatbelt (for regular daily driving..), and get some 4 point harness if you ever race...

airbags dont save lives, seatbelts do. airbags can also burn your face and other limbs, it lets off a powder or gas.

Thats why you disable the airbags when working on your dash electrical system...duh.

Pick up a Haynes manual for your car it tells you how in there. Or just look under your steering wheel and unscrew or pop out this cover thing i dont exactly remember, anyways there is a connector under there that you remove to disable the airbags.

That is a truely ignorant post...so you would ratheryour head hit the wheel and break your neck and fracture your skull then suffer a burn that goes away in less then a day

It is againt federal law to remove your airbag if the car is already equipped with one unless you have a problem where you cant be more then a certain amount of inches away from it or if the passenger in your car cant go in the back and is in a child seat something to that effect.

To answer your cruise control question if you buy a USDM Honda Wheel you can wire the controls that are on it to work otherwise you will need to be creative with the mounting...

Air bags are lots of money but there good cause there safe unless your like 8 or too short and will be smothered one of my buddies g/fs is under 5' tall and she has no airbag in her subie.

thanx for the help guys. Actually I don't live in the USA, in here I don't think it's illegal to have your airbags removed, and I'm not changing the steering wheel but after installing bucket seats and 4 point harnesses.

About the cruise control, I think I'll just have to figure a way to reinstall the buttons somewhere else in the dash.

I don't have and I'm not planning to have a rear sear stiffening bar cause I use the rear seats often (Unless you tell me that by installing such bar the rear seats are still usable) so I would just have to figure a way to install the 4 point harness without disabling the rear seats

instead of screwing with the connectors, why not just go to your fuse box, and pull the fuse dumbass.. I think in my accord it's number 30 or 26... the airbag fuse is in the drivers side fusebox.

Actually removing the air bag is not the problem, the problem is how to change the wheel without losing the cruise control buttons. :bonghitte:

I'm not certain, but aren't the cruise control buttons all momentary switches? if so, just go to radioshack buy a set of 3, make a mount for them, and wire it up... You'll have the same functionality, and have the switches were ever you want.. Just have to make sure they can handle 12v which is'nt much. also get some good wire, and solder them nice and tightly so they don't crossover, and use electrical tape as a precaution.

I would use heat shrink tubes instead of tape.
