3800 supercharged series II engine problems

New to the forum, just looking for a little advice on my engine problems. The motor is actually on a sandrail. After about 20 minutes of running, it will load up real bad and miss at idle. It pours black smoke out of the exhaust for a while, then will rev up and smooth out for a few seconds. Also you can hear the air trying to suck past the throttle blade and it gets very loud. If I let the car set for about 30 minutes to cool down it runs awesome for about 20 minutes and goes through the same thing again. I pulled the codes and they are 1860,140,300,1652. Thank you for any help.

Welcome to AF.

It looks like you have multiple issues. What year is the engine? The P0140 DTC is a post CAT converter 02 sensor code. Since this is on a sandrail I am assuming you do not have a CAT converter so the P0140 may not be an issue for you. The P0300 is a random misfire. How old are the spark plugs and ignition wires? Check the contacts on the ignition coil packs to the ignition control module. Anyways, also based on the symptoms you may have a bad MAF sensor. Disconnect it and see what it does.

The P1860 DTC is transaxle related. Bad TCC PWM (torque converter clutch) solenoid issue.

Not sure on the year exactly, the wires are still numbered so maybe they are the originals. The plugs were changed out about s months ago. I've pulled all coil packs and cleaned everything up. When you disconnect the MAF it straightens out for a few seconds then goes right back to running rough. Thanks

The only other thing is about 1 month ago, at the dunes it ran this way also. So I changed out 1 coil pack and that took care of it, but it still would cut out and idle a little rough. I am going to replace the other two coil packs and eliminate that. Just in case.

Any other suggestions, I'm gonna try the mass air flow sensor. I let it idle and warm up tonight. Started running rough so I unplugged the MAF sensor, and it quit missing. After about 30 seconds, it started surging up and down. Then I plugged it back in and after about 10 seconds, it started running rough again. Thanks for any help
