Now that the Supra is finished its time for another project. Was going to carry on with the EVO but this kit (Vantastic) has been burning away like a fire at me wanting to be built :p
So the EVO is on hold and this one is underway today.
Being a Hotrod most parts will be colour-coded. Engine and running gear will get the same colour as the car.
Car with have a two tone look to it when painted.
Today the engine was clean and assembled reading for painting.
Whole engine was glued with the new glue i just brought (Milfix) and the whole engine will be painted body colour for a clean simple look.
Quite looking forward to building something different for a change.

Going to hint on the colors, or you making us wait?!?!?

On a side note: I've noticed in your pics that you seem to have a "mobile" box of supplies. Is that so you can build where ever there is space? I think I saw a pic of your work area before (long ago) but I thought it was a bench type painting area.

Post often, I need the inspiration, this Opel is kicking my *$$!

Your work truely amazes me!

Ohhy yeah, the model kit with the valves and valve springs and stuff. Man, this thing had amazing things done to it by testors. I't gonna come out nice as usual, just kick back and watch the build, guys. :smoker2:

rhmatt.....YOU CAN WAIT FOR THE COLOUR !!;)
I try and keep just the paints and tools i need in one box so that i dont have to hunt through all the others to find what i'm looking for.

njh...i have 5 days off work and i'm running on NOS

are you being suggestive with that NOS comment? I can't wait to see what you'll come up with for this model. I have a hotrod waiting in the pile of boxes to do. it'll be an unusual time in the forums...

Umm..... Did anyone else notice that suicides model is a completely different kit?
Will be watching with interest P Man as I am building the Smoothster from Testors. Same chassis. Whats your engine? Mines a LT1 Chevy.
Seems a waste though all that internal detail in the engine doesn't it.

Engine is the LT-1
It really does seem a waste....but i have been impressed by the kit so far and the way the parts have fitted together.

Not sure why they put a spare hood and roof in the kit though

From what I have seen of your kit it is identical to mine up to the body. By that I mean the chassis and gaurds. I would suspect that it is just one of those kits where they use the same parts tree for more than one kit.

Well this I can't wait to see if it's up to the usual P/Man standards it's going to be (as P/Man said) VANTASTIC!!

Warren the spare hood is in the kit for people like Jay, so he has one to lose/snap!!:D :D :D :D

Pman, you are breaking your rules again. I think it is time to 'revise' your rules for good!

I have to admit that I'm not a fan of this style of car, but I do love those wheels. I can't wait however to see the Pman magic touch on this one.

Today was sanding day !!.
After having a better look at the chassis it really needed a lot of work to sand out plenty of mold lines on all the different parts. After 3 hours it was ready to be assembled. The rear end and front took a bit of mucking around to get the parts to fit but turned out OK.
The chassis had quite a “twist” in it and I had to straighten it by heating the front section with a hair dryer and twisting it back into shape.
Once it is finished it will all be sparayed in one colour to keep the Hotrod theme.
Here’s a few pics of it almost finished with the engine sitting in to see how it fits etc

Have you glued the chassis together allready? The suspension (A arms, springs, spindles and rear housing) and frame all getting painted together?!? I take it that it is not primed yet, do you intend to prime these before painting?

3 hours of sanding....how do you have such patience?!?

Keep us posted, I've searched the background of all the pics in this thread trying to find hints of the color you will be using. No sight of any spray can OR the Kiwibot! :D

You have to sand EVERY componenet? I thought it was just the shell! PMAN, dont you paitn each item before you assemble?

I'm still sanding away at present on other parts.
Have got the interior ready for painting.

OK....To be honest i still have not made up my mind.
The guards will be done in gloss black. So i'm wanting a nice dark deep colour to go with it.
One idea i did think of was spraying the whole car in Matt Black for a real early 60's look

I never built that but the smoothster i think used the same frame and engine and there awesome. if u have a spare kit the rear independent suspention makes a great swap for another project. mabee hot rod.

Body finally got painted today and it's been outside drying
Running boards painted in TS-14 Gloss Black
Body in TS-51 Telefonica Blue
Engine painted in Mach Blue MS-4

Took quite a few coats of blue to get the body covered.
Has around 7 coats of paint on it.
It has to be applied in very light coats.

You can see from the first pic(after one coat only) how lightly it needs to be when using this colour. The blue gets darker as each coat is layed on.
Very important to get the colour even as it will turn out different shades of blue.
The first 2-3 coats are painted from around 10-12 inches from the body....moving it very quickly so that the paint is just landing onto the model.....this makes it dry quicker and allows you to paint heavier finish coats later on.

There is still a slight amount of white that can be seen in some panel lines but should dissappear when painted black.
Went for a nice dark gloss colour to bring out the nice smooth lines of the body.

Ended up doing the engine a different shade of blue which IMO makes it stand out better.
Will need a good rub with some compound followed by a final wax.
Still got alot to go like engine/chassis detail etc...but its coming along nicely so far.

WOW, that was worth the wait! The shine is amazing, and even the first coat appeared perfectly even. I was kinda suprised you acheived such great coverage on the first coat also.

The color combo reminds me alot of the old cop cars here in the U.S. Some of the southern states ran two-tone cars even back then, with black running boards and blue or burgandy cabs to contrast.

Keep up the great work and ditto on the congrats from tazdev! Do you have a link to any more pics of the P.ride?

Engine finished and glued in place along with exhaust headers.

Interior finished. In keeping with the blue/black theme...the interior is painted black. Seats are blue with black highlights.

Tires have a good detailed tread to them....took awhile to remove the inside spare rubber before the rim could be fitted though.

Engine-chassis-wheels and running boards all finished. Just the exhaust system and brake disc's to add to finish.
