Primera = G20?

Is the Nissan Primera basically the same car as the Infiniti G20?

I've just bought a 1990 Nissan Primera with the SR20DE motor and a 5 speed manual transmission.

The G20 was introduced in 1991 and all models have the SR20DE motor. As far as I know the G20 and Primera are basically the same except for regional differences (driving side, emissions, safety stuff)

Primera and G20 are exactly the same cars except for some very minor things:

The top is Primera and the bottom is G20.

Hi everybody.

Well, I live in Estonia (Yurp:) and I own a '91 Primera. I think the G20 came only as a sedan with SR20DE under the hood. In Yurp the primera (P10) was sold either as a sedan, a hatchback or a station wagon (I think the chassis is called W10). As for engines, the Primera had either SR20DE, SR20Di (the one I have - it has a single injector and 85kW) and a couple of 1.6l engines (including the one with a carburettor). There are a lot of diesels here in estonia as well (2.0 N/A diesels). Also the trim level was different - with or w/o electric windows, ABS and rear disk brakes. I think G20 did not have as much options.

Hope this helps,

I'm in New Zealand, we didn't actually get the P10 Primera new here. Lucky for us, the Japanese get sick of their cars after about 6 years and send most of them here :) There are now thousands of P10s here.

They seem to come with 2 motors:

1.8 Twin Cam 16 valve Efi
2.0 Twin Cam 16 valve Efi, which I think is always the SR20DE

The Japanese love automatics though, it took nearly 2 hours of crusing the car yards to find a good 5 speed 2.0

The Japanese also gave themselves the best of everything, the Primera here comes standard with air conditioning and power windows/mirrors.

Yeah, and there was also an AWD P10 available in Japan. Boy, I would have liked to have one of those. And put an SR20VE engine in there as well. Sigh :)

Yeah I saw a couple of those, both were AWD with a full leather interior... They were only US$4,500 each but they were automatic :(

I guess every AWD primera is automatic. I know a guy in Japan and he had one before he ran it into a curb. He was always complaining that you couldn't get the AWD in a manual tranmission. I don't know Nissans reasonings for this. I would love to have a P11 AWD 6-speed w/SR20DET. :smoker2:

Oh well here's to dreamin'

Jason, are you talking about Cameron?

Yes, and a 6-speed AWD, with probably a VET (is there such a thing?), as opposed to DET... sigh again

Have there ever been AWD Nissans with a manual gearbox? What about Sunny GTI-R? Probabl someone with a thinck wallet could perform this "dream" conversion...

What was the topic again? Oh, yeah, the G20 is the top of the line Primera :)

Yeah that's Camron. How do you know him?

The Pulsar GTi-R comes in a manual tranny so I know they are out there. Problem is, for example. Even though the North American Sentra tranny will fit on a G20 engine and vise-versa it's the suspension that 'plugs' into the tranny that's a problem. But yeah, I think with enough money someone could make a manual AWD G20. *drool*

The VET is real. It's in the Japanese X-trail and pumps out a nice 280hp stock. *double drool*

BTW one of my best friends in from Tallinn, Estonia. Don't suppose you know him too? :)

if the g20 had AWD I would have trouble deciding between that and an A4 - it would certainly have more room!!

My g20 does not even have the limited slip dif, so I pretty much try to avoid driving it in snow - usually take the 2k passat with snows :sun:

I know CamEron from the se-r mailing list. I have not posted there, but I have exchanged a couple of emails with Cameron (that's why I'm sure there's an "E" in his name :)

280hp is nice indeed, but I think the X-trail is a very new model, so the engine can be bought only new. Too bad I'm still at the University :)

As for your Estonian friend, if he has a Primera, I don't know him. Although Estonia is a small country, and you never know...

Hmm, I somehow doubt it was British-built, Japanese is more likely (but I stand to be corrected).

4 headlights? Did they look stock or aftermarket (I still believe the original primera lights look cool :)

I own a 2.0L 5spd AWD Primera. They are dont only come in automatic! Im from NZ and over here there are quite a few guys who add turbos to them. Its relatively cheap to use the Turbo setup from an Altessa Bluebird, it bolts straight on. Dropping in a GTiR engine (SR20DET) is a is a lot more costly. The handling of the AWD is unreal!

I hate to be an ass about this, but could you turn off your Cap Lock? It's considered rude and gives the impression that you're yelling. I doubt that's the point you're trying to make. :D
