Have you ever seen this before? I was wandering around in one of those great old hobby shops - you know, the ones with the models stacked to ceiling, helter skelter and no hope of anything close to an inventory. The requisite old crusty guy was behind the counter. There was an old stack of Testor's/Fujimi models and I saw this- I had never seen an E30 M3 before. Has anyone built one? I think this would be a good reissue. The copyright is from 1987.

sorry about the pix, didn't know how to get them to open in the message (what a noob!!)

Nice looking model! I built an M6 model a few years back, but have always wanted to build one of the early M3s. Hopefully someone decides to reproduce/rerelease this so more of us can get our grubby mits on one!!!

Most likely to be a mod of the middle kit, methinks. Aren't the others the earlier 3-series body shape?

I would die for one E30 M3 kit. But unfortunatly the most E30 kits i´ve seen has a very "boxy" shape on roof and has always an odd looking shape at rear. Have looked at Fujimi, Revell you name it! But they all share the same miss in shape.

here you have an old thread about the same subject, hope this can help:

Fujimi BMW M3 (E30 series) (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=96116&perpage=15&pagenumber=1)

tmathew,

That is indeed Testor's rebox of Fujimi's E30 M3. None of the kit's jay put up links to is the same. Jay's links are to slightly different E30 325i kits. Fujimi made the E30 M3 in street trim and 3 racing versions, the yellow Autotech, a red and white with black stripe version (I forget the sponsor name, and one other I can't recall off the top of my head) . Fujimi did a limited re issue of the race cars a while back, I grabbed all three. I haven't seen them re issue the street car yet. Chances are they will though prolly with another reissue of the racing versions. I'll get kit #'s and maybe some pics when I get home...You should pick those up. I have seen some ebay sellers get big $$ for them.
As an owner of an '88 E30 M3 I can say, as mentioned by others Fujimi's shape of the car insn't right. I did see a Japanese web site where the guy scratch built the front air dam to get the shape right. I'll see if I can dig that link up. It's the only game in town right now for a truely classic car that should have a model done right. The decal variations would be huge, the art cars, the rally cars, the Touring cars. The E30 M3 is still raced effectively on the club scene here and in Europe.

that can't be one of these.

the bodywork of the m3 is totally different from those.

the first one even isn't a e30 , it's a e21.

and maybe someone could do the VLN (racecup on the old nurburgring nordschleife) BMW M3 driven by Arthur Deutge (on the rear wing it says "Der mit dem Wolf tanzt" in english it would mean "The Guy who dances with the wolf"):

Thanks for the info, and sorry for reposting about a subject that was apparently discussed a few weeks ago. Someone was asking about the price, I paid $20 US for the kit

Also, there seems to be a couple of different versions of the 3 series. The M3 and the 325i clearly have different bodies, though, with the M3 have large fender flares ....

while the 325i has an everted edge that travels continuously along the top of the front and rear fenders.

However, both models are a bit off in scale, and don't quite capture the feel of the 3 series.

I know Dragon has done an M3 from the last generation, but that too is a bit off (and the tamest looking of the 1:1 M3 generations, IMO). I am surprised that no company has jumped on the recent 3 and 5 series, which I think would be popular, especially the M versions.

Wow, before seeing those pics i would have said I never saw that kit before but know I think I did see that when I was younger. Yet another model I now MUST own!
