'97 Grand Prix HVAC, 2 problems.
1. Blower motor does not work on setting 1
2. Air selection only blows from top vents.
What could be the problem?

Welcome to AF.
Your post has been moved to its own thread.
1) Bad blower motor resistor or climate control unit switch.
2) Check the accessory vacuum line running from the upper intake manifold (back) to the area by the main fuse box. Check for loose connection or bad plastic vacuum line.

OK. I had a bad blower resistor.
Is the intake manifold in the engine compartment? I'm looking for the accessory vacuum line. Where is it and the main fuse box?

You can about bet that the blak plastic vacuum line is broken right near the battery- battery gases eat through the plastic-- reroute the line and splice in a new piece with a rubber hose-- I'd say I've repaired a couple dozen W-cars this way....

Which engine do you have? The N/A 3800 or supercharged. I am assuming N/A 3800. The intake manifold is under the plastic injector cover so remove it first. Then you will see the upper intake manifold plenum (UIM) which is the black thing you see. On the back side of it towards the firewall is the accessory vacuum feed and feed to the power brake booster. Check that part and follow the smaller plastic line along the firewall over to the passenger side strut tower area. Then over along the inner fender which is where the main fuse box is located above the battery. There is a vacuum line coupler you need to check along with the complete plastic line.

It was the vacuum line in the exact location that you predicted. Thanks!
