i wanted to contrast the differinces and similarities in these engines in preperation for a swap into my car.
which one would be harder to install over all?
i know the b18 would be a little cheeper, other than that are there and other advantages i might see?
which one would give me more power or feel better or is the answer obvious, with the b16 @ 20 mor hp?
thanks,
martin

well the ls would be easier to install wiring wise because u dont gotta wire vtec, but if your doing a mpfi swap anyways, its not that much harder to add the wires for vtec seeing as u have to add 4 wires for the mpfi swap.
but as far as mounting the engine and phsyically dropping it in, its just as easy
the ls has more torque and the b16 has more top end power. with the ls u can spin tire easy, gotta rev alittle higher to burn out with the b16. like with my friends ls crx like i was racing it and i had to launch at like 1500 and feathering the throttle all the way. i personally would go b16 but everyone has different opinions, u might want the torque of the ls

Do a search and you'll find a few other threads that have asked the same question. You'll get a pretty good answer from the search.

im with 90civicrider, go LsVtec all the way if you can, you have the advantages of both the top end power of the b16, and the torque of the LS motor, they are FUCKING great. my friend has one, BUTTTT<> make damn well sure if you do it that who ever does it knows how to do it, and drill it right otherwise you will be a VERY unhappy person.
poor mans type R!! go for it

Ls v-tec is not a poor mans type r.
Poor mans type r- b16/ gsr head mated with gsr short block with type r internals or type r short block.:)

well im looking at some numbers right here, and i've got the b18 with only 10 more tq than the b16, is that right? if its only 10 how can this be any much of a difference, i was expecting 20+ the way you guys were talking

Power is a product of torque and RPM The difference lies in where peak power is made. A b16a will make it's power higher up because it has the RPM advantage. Compare the power curves and you will see that one makes *some* power lower down while the other makes *more* power high up.
Bottom line? My B16A will smoke a B18B in similar trim any day of the week and twice on sundays. Go figure which is the better motor.
