probably a simple question for most you holley guys.I have a small block chevy that i recently put a holley carb on.I would like to find a junkyard breather that will fit the holley good.I need an inclosed breather to cut down the water from pennetrating in mud holes.Im affraid an open breather will take on water.what is the best year and make vehicle to make this work any help will be appreciated.

Pretty much all 4 barrel carbs had the same size flange for an air cleaner. So virtually any stock air cleaner housing intended for a Rochester Q-jet (GM) Autolite (Ford) or Mopar 4 barrel will fit a Holley. Just make sure the lid of the air cleaner is tall enough to clear the choke blade and make sure the base does not interfere with the throttle linkage.

yea but the chevy breather will not clear, the rockchucker is stuffed up in the breather the holley needs a flat base to clear. i really need to find a breather fast. just went to the mudholes and the open filter took on a lot of water almost stalled with water.when i hit it hard

Here's what you can try though it may not be the cheapest route. Sceptre makes a single inlet cast aluminum carb topper (about $60) that you can then route to a filter box, then from there make a snorkel from PVC and a rubber adapter. You can route the breather into the PVC pipe. Here's one example for a DIY snorkel...not pretty, but functional:

Probably done this already, but don't forget to seal up the distributor (the site above makes a great suggestion of using a plug to let it vent when you're not off roading), oil and trans fluid tubes, and reroute the axle vent tubes higher.

That is a good idea.but my problem is that i need to find a breather that will fit the carb first.A buddy told me some 70 model fords with 351 and 461 had a holley from the factory. If i new what models had them I could maybe find a breather at a junkyard.the problem is I have just not talked to right person.any more advice will be apreciated

Some chevy air cleaners have a little notch on the flange which is used to align the unit on a Q-Jet carb. I think this notch can be easily removed so it will fit on a Holley.

And yes, all kinds of old Ford air cleaners will fit. Virtually any Ford 4bbl aircleaner will fit your Holley. They were all designed to fit Autolite or Holley carbs.

BTW Holleys were used on many Fords of the 1950's and 60's, and on some Mustangs and Ford light trucks into the mid-80's. Imo go to the junkyard and start trying them.
