Hello,
After a pretty intense and long final exam session (I finally graduated:iceslolan:iceslolan:iceslolan) I can at last start the kit I've been dying to start for months - the Trabi. For those who haven't had a chance to see it yet, it is brilliant little kit. it's got full engine detail, opening bonnet and trunk with a spare wheel and the roof is detachable to reveal the nicely detailed interior. So far no fitment issues either:).
I decided to add a little detail to it though along the way but without going too crazy. First I modified the firewall which was flat in the kit but it should have a shelf. Innitially I was going to leave it as it was but there was an empty space behind the engine, so I had no chice...
Before:

After:

Then I moved to the interior.
Added a carpet, which will look nice especially that the roof is detachable

Parts such as rear shelf and shelf under the dashboard were too thin or had a complex shape so carpet material wouldn't look good on them. I sprayed them with a 3m spray mount from +/- 35cm away and ainted with revell acrylics. I was pleasently surprised with the results:iceslolan
My car is going to be brand new so to make it more convincing I added a newspaper from 1989.

Body is painted with Vallejo sky blue, which in my opinion is a good match to real Trabi blue. What do you think?

Finaly I Alclad semigloss alu and chrome arrived and I could paint the wheels and head lamps:) Grill requres a little wash though

Here is what I've done today. The aluminium and rubber boards are really thin and in the kit are quite... poor really so I had to scratch build my own and they turned out better than expected (lol)

I'm really enjoying this build:)

All questions and comments are obviously welcome

i think it looks great, is that a 1/12th scale f1 car behind it?

I always like it when a car goes well together and you have fun! The trabant is looking good!

Yes, it's Tamiya's F190. It makes Trabi look even smaller:)

Very impressed :smokin:

Btw, what did you use for the carpet?

Tkanks, the carpet is made of the flock used to print stuff on t-shirts. IMO it looks much more realistic and up-to-scale than flocking. I used white one and painted it with watered down revell acrulic paint.

Damn, I want this kit now! How did you scratch the rubber stripping?

I used evergreen rectangular strip 0.25 x 0.75mm for the bottom strip and 0.50mm plastic square rod for the black bit. But you have to be careful not to paint the smaller bit all black because on the model it will look too dark. Paint only the top of the whole part black.

Another update. I mounted rear lights and also noticed the screw on the lights of a real Trabi so I added the smallest screw head I have but I'm not too sure weather it's small enough

And added a lock to the trunk

That's it for now. See you soon for another update.
C&C are very welcome

Really nice job, specially your paint is flawless...
:eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2:

I'm also working on the Trabant (in sport version !) and really enjoy to make it...this is a simple car in reality and in Revell version...
Your detailing is really good, nice job for the screws on lights !

Can't wait to see your motor (to take inspiration :p )

Thanks for your kind comments guys. The engine is 80% finished it's looking ok. I just have to go to the model shop and pick up another Trabi cause I lost windscreen wipers and one of the most prominent parts on the engine:crying:

Looks realy great! Nice paint job and I do like little Wyborcza :)

I would suggest to darken panel lines or if already done - make it more prominent.

Hi Emilssi,

I think you can go to your model shop and tell them there were some missing (or broken) pieces in the kit. Your model shop will ask directly to REVELL to send them the missing pieces.

I did this when I bought one REVELL kit (CORVETTE C5-R), there were no decals in the kit and about 2 weeks later, the model shop received the new decals...

This will avoid you to buy another Trabi kit --- So you could buy another kit !!! ---:iceslolan

Bye

Sorry for my bad english, I'm frogs eater !:evillol:

Here is what I've done since last update:
I pretty much finished the engine. The only thing that's left to be done is a fuel tank cap
http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww115/Emson667/Trabi/SNC12785.jpg
http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww115/Emson667/Trabi/SNC12803.jpg
http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww115/Emson667/Trabi/SNC12807.jpg

I finished the interior
http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww115/Emson667/Trabi/SNC12709.jpg
http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww115/Emson667/Trabi/SNC12893.jpg

Then I added mirrors etc and painted the black stripe under the doors, which I had forgotten to do before and it makes the car look slimer and somewhat nicer
