Airbag light stays on when car is shut off

My father has a 1998 Chevy Malibu. His airbag light came on recently, while the car was NOT running. When he drives, the light is off. When he is home, and the car is parked, the light is on and causing his battery to die every night. He does not care about the bags, just wants the light off to keep battery from going dead. He removed the fuse, but light is still on. Any suggestion?

mine is doing the same thing, I found this out...
remove the PCM acc fuse from the passenger compartment fuse box, turns off the PRNDL and the airbag light
I'm still searching as to why this is happening
