Paint Booth

I'm curious to hear some options for fans on paint booths. Mine is home made.
I use a furnace filter, 10x20x1. It has a computer fan on the back of the booth. I don't think there is enough CFM. It looks similar to the Testors Spray Booth, without the cost of them.
I'll try to get a picture up when I can.

I've only bought pre-built booths... but when researching the subject I did see a lot of caution about which type of fans you should use.

Basically the fan needs to be well sealed in terms of electrical contact, as you don't want flammable solvents (fumes) to pass through and make contact.

Whether the voltage running through the fan is enough to ignite I don't know just saying what I read on most forums.

Generally because of this most people use bathroom extractors as they are well catered for this purpose.

I have a paasche booth. It works very well and I like it. I have it vented outdoors.
I am going to one day invest in a Pace booth though as they utilize filters you can find just about anywhere. The Paasche booth, while nice, is limited to their brand of filters which can be very difficult to find.

I used a booth that I made out of aluminum flashing and a bathroom fan until I learned that it could generate a spark, ignite paint fumes and burn me badly. This happened recently to a guy on another forum. You should consider investing in a brushless fan motor or buy a new booth. Others will tell you that the risk is minimal. It's not worth the risk to me.

im wondering, i have a side hobby of rc cars that use a brushless motor

do you guys think it would be possible to use one of these motors and add a fan to it?

maybe replacing the motor from a bathroom exhaust fan with one of these?

i would think the car motors would have too much power, so maybe a smaller motor from a smaller scale car or heli?

It will depend on how many cfm's you can generate with the motors, the length of the of hose, etc. There are some websites that show you how to calculate the cfm based on your design. I'm no expert, but based on my experience with my booth, I would want 300 to 350 cfm moving through the booth. If you don't move enough air you will still have paint fumes in your work area after a paint session. But, you don't want to move so much air that it disrupts the flow of your paint.
