More Problems...Wheel Bearing?

I just got my new fuel pump installed on my truck and now something else is falling apart. I'm hearing this sound from what seems to be my left rear wheel. It's not a brake squeal sound, but more of a slight grinding. It seems to get louder when I turn. At first I thought this was a brake issue. I looked and there was plenty o material left on my brake pads, however there was a groove in the rotor, a small one and a small groove in the brake pad too. Both seemed to go inward as if something had gotten caught in between. I filed the pad back smooth, and made sure there was nothing in between, but the sound is still there. I'm not sure when this happened or if it is related to the sound at all, just making an observation so don't read too much into it. I have read a little bit about wheel bearing problems, so I took my wheels off and there is some play in the wheel, but there's even more play in the opposite wheel. It is possible that I could be mistaking where the sound is coming from. Right now I'm just kind of confused, but I'm leaning towards bearings. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I read on one post here that wheel bearings could cause braking problems. For a while it felt like I was losing power brakes at times. Now I don't have this problem, but I do have an ABS light on all the time, again I don't know if it's related.

somewhere about 163000 miles.

Does the noise increase with MPH on the road?
Does the noise increase with braking?

Going down the road at 35-50 MPH turn steering wheel a little right or left and tell us if noise changes.

Abs light on says you have a ABS problem to?
Also ABS kicking in can cause you to feel pedal jump up and down and feel like brake power lose.
ABS codes will point you to that problem.

Is it front or rear wheel where you feel more play on one side?

check your universal joints, they will make a sqeek, grinding noise until the truck gets to about 20-30 mph. This might not be it but I have seen several times where people thought it was brakes and when the universals got bad enough then found it.

grinding noises are usually the brake shields//especially the rear brake shields..

also check the brake pad clips...

Not the pads, pad clips and I'm pretty sure it's not the brake shields, but if this is common please explain more how to check them. I had my universal replaced when I bought the truck less than three years ago so I don't think that's it. The play sound made is in the rear wheels, I thought on drivers side, but could be just how it appears because I'm sitting on that side. The play is in the rear more on the passengers side than the drivers, and the noise gets louder when I turn right, not so much difference with speed or braking.

one example is the rotors rust . the rust bubbles hit the pad clips causing the grinding...this can also bend these clips causing scraping grinding noises..using a coarse large flat file file down the rotor on the radius ..edge ..

Wish that was it, but it's not the pad clips, I checked because that was one of my first thoughts too. I have checked pretty much every surface where the brakes attach and there is nothing hitting to make the sound. I'm trying to figure out how to check and see if a wheel bearing is bad, or if I'm gonna have to take it somewhere.

with the rear wheels both , off the ground rotate the rear wheels ..then lift the front wheels , both , and rotate..you should be able to locate the noise..

I know the sound was coming from the rear, and I did jack up both sides of the rear and could not repeat the sound.
