Does the starter motor turn the van's engine over, or do you just get a click or nothing at all when trying to start it? Does the key have a VATS resistor in it? Do you have another key you can try?

As for the Check Engine Light staying on, that's indicating that the car's Powertrain Control Module (PCM) recognizes an issue with the system. You can pull the diagnostic codes using a single jumper wire (http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/obd-i/bl-dtcs-33a.htm?once=true&;). Click on the link and scroll to the bottom of the page to see how.

I can't get the codes the light won't blink, and the engine does turn over.
