Yup, your the only one. They should hold a major sports car race there. It's a great track. Maybe a 10 hour race or something. They could invite some of the European teams over to compete. I'm sure it would be a hit.:sarcasm1:

I drove RA in 2004 when we first got the first GTS. Bone stock with 17" rims and 285 dunlop slicks on all corners. We ran high 37's and low 38's. I have not been back. I would guess we would break the 30's but thats a guess.....

What do NASA ST1 and SCCA GT2's run? I am asking a buddy who runs both and will post when he tells me.

Ok....My buddy who happens to be local to Road Atlanta holds the "SCCA STO track record in qualifying (1.28.9) and race (1.29.9). SCCA STO rules means DOT tires, a min weight of 3150lbs and I have to use a restrictor...so ~443rwhp. 3150/443=7.1; well off the 5.5 ratio allowed in ST1. But suprisingly nobody else in ST1 has broken 1:30. I haven't raced NASA since last year.....I could take the restrictor out, and 200lbs and run slicks and easily turn a 26."

So I guess a properly sorted and driven Stock GTS should be close to 1:30-2 and an equally sorted ST1 GTS should be in the 1:26's

Now that is with new tires, etc etc....with a crew setting the car up etc etc....

that isn't me saying that. Its all in quotes from Bob Mayer #38 Corvette.

I ran 37/38's with an old GTS on 17's and 285 dunlops back in 2004. I thought that my car should break 30's but was guessing.

Bob Mayer confirmed that he thinks around 26's for an ST1 spec car.

Have you guys been able to determine that buying wider tires helps mask a lack of talent? I'm hoping that is the case with me.

Well I'm happy with my 1:37 last Saturday, it was a personal best for me and I felt like I was actually beginning to understand this sport. I like to think that someday i could get into the 20's, but that's just so far away that I just don't see it happening, not in this car anyway.

u can do it. The car is deff. capable. New rubber would give you 3-4 seconds or more I would bet and that is halfway there.

Keep trying that is the fun of it! Break your own records each time. Also there is a bunch of time in the setup. Do you change shock/sway bar settings? Do you take tire temps and make alignment adjustment and air pressures?

Those all have to combine to run at the limit.

We are all still learning.

Squerly, every time I go to the track I have a shyte eating grin on my face. I just try to get better each time, regardless of how that compares to others. I've seen what it takes to be "fast" and it means 4 wheel drifts and some additional risk. Maybe I'll get there, maybe I won't. As long as I'm having fun and keep getting better, I'm not worried about it. I pass more guys than I used to. If someone asks you how you compare yourself to other drivers, answer "by height". :iceslolan

Speaking of setup... Brian, have you run PBIR? I've been there twice and torn up the inside of the driver front tire both times. I think the long left sweeper (turn 4?) is eating it up. Hoosier says you need to remove camber with banked turns. Curious, have you had that issue at that track with tires?

4 wheel drifts are required to get to the limits....plus its so much fun to slide slightly thru everything. Deff. a little more risk but so is racing period.

yes...I was just @ PBIR 2 months ago. No, no tire wear issues......tire grip maybe but not wear. Actually the opposite. I ran the tires longer than usual and kept getting faster. I dont consider PBIR a "banked" track.

Whats your setup on the car?

Tiny has the car set up for RA so the shock/sway bar settings should be fine. I'm ashamed to say that if I had to set the car up for VIR or Barber I wouldn't know how to do it. As for tire and air pressure, yes I do that. I generally set the tire pressure to 29-30 lbs hot and the car feels good to me. Any more and it starts to slide around a bunch. But maybe that's what I should be doing? Are you more comfortable with your car when it sticks in the corners or when you can slide it around?

You maybe interested I installed the tire relief valves in my 18" BBS wheels and set them for 31 psi. I like them no hassle with tire pressures its almost automatic, just fill tires before a run. They are easy to install with the tires on the rims.

there is no one setup to put on the car and leave it. the track is diff. ever time I go. There is a baseline that we start with then depending on whats going on we make adjustments. do you know what the baseline setup is?

I personally like a loose car. Are u doing tire temps? I find without data tire temps are the best indicator plus your seat of the pants info combined with tire pressures. I always make changes during the day. first so you learn what that change does to the car and second we always make some improvement. That is part of racing.
