2002 explorer, random no idle

I have a 2002 for explorer, everything has been running great.
recently had a weird issue (probably due to weather).
It has been incredibly humid and there has been huge random rain falls (0 visibility).
when i go out and start the explorer it cranks and fires fun. as soon as i let of the gas it stalls.
continues to do this unless i keep my foot on the gas (2,000rpm) for about 30 seconds, i will hear a "click", let of the gas, it dies, but then starts up and runs fine.
continues to run fine after that.
when this first happened 5 days ago i thought it was just a fluke, but it happened to day when leaving my father in-laws house.
He said the engine sounded kind of funny until it made that click noise, then it sounded normal.
even when its not idling the engine runs fine.

anyone ever have this issue. how can it be fixed.
is it possible its related to the cruise control that doesn't work (worked for about 2 weeks awhile ago, stopped working again after i went through a carwash)

First, make sure the oil level is fine and the oil is in decent shape. Once you confirm that, then I suggest you try turning the A/C on once you have the truck idling and see if that causes the engine to stall. I suspect you might have a faulty idle air control (IAC) servo.

I also have a 2002 ford explorer 6 cylinder. it has had sensor problems since I started driving it two years ago, but under inspection, they would do something and tell me to drive it 50 miles and come back, no problem passing, but my son used my vehicle a few months ago and upon return I can not get it started on the first second or third try, it is fuel injected, on the 4 or 5th try, it will start to gas up but has a hard time and then the engine suddenly starts reving. then the hot light comes on, it's not hot, but I am fearful to drive it so I don't really no if it will keep running or not
