fuel pump

'99 K1500 Sub 5.7 - I was replacing the fuel pump and while taking the fuel line off the pump (slip on connector) the metal locking piece inside the fitting stayed attached to the plastic on the fuel pump. Did I screw the pooch here boys??? What would you suggest I do? I ran to the Chevy dealer (because I like paying triple for my parts) and although they close @ 2:00 they were already locked up @ 1:30. I've tried searching online for replacement parts but can't seem to find any. Do I need to replace the hose and part of the hard line as well (it looks like 1 piece)? Sorry for the rambling, I'm frustrated....

Thank you. That is quite a list. However, I don't think any of those will fit my needs. As you suggested, I think I will try and find a Dorman parts supplier in my area.

I replaced my fuel pump about 6 months ago. I don't know if I understand your question or not but I had one of the the plastic male plugs break off in the metal fitting on the gas lines themselves. I went and bought a tool that was suppose to slide up over the plastic male fitting and release the fuel line. Did not work. I believe I fashioned a piece of plastic to go inside the broken male fitting very tight. While pulling gently back, not to dislodge my new fashioned tool, I took a very small piece of a small diameter close hanger and inserted it outside of the male fitting into the gas line fitting to release the retaining ring. I may have just totally confused you. I did not need to salvage the plastic fittings on the furl pump because I relaced the pump. Be careful not to benf the retaining system in the fule line itself. I just re-read your post............I see that it is the retaining portion that came out on the plastic fitting. Disregard what I posted unless you break the fitting off in the gasline. Sorry
