hard cold start

i have a base model 97 with the 3.8. when i start it for the first time in 8 hours or so one of two things happen. 1.car starts, idle climbs like normal startup then idle drops and stalls, takes 3 tries or so to stay running. or 2.starts, idle climbs then settles and it idles fine unless i give it gas then the idle drops and it backfires a bit. once the engine is warmed up it runs great. it threw a code for the coolant temp sensor and a code for the cam position sensor. which should i replace first in hopes of a better cold startup?
