I have a 2000 gtp with 134,000 miles on it, my wife was driving it and it stalled. When attempting to restart it will only start if the accelerator is pressed and it runs very rough. While waiting for the tow truck (about an hour) I tried to start again and it started and ran smooth, but i had it towed anyway. I am not getting a SES light or anything, i did notice that the exhaust smells very much like sulfur. I thought maybe the catalytic converter, but the car has run fine until now. Should I attempt to clean the MAF? Or is it bad gas? Please help!!!!!!:crying::frown:

I would say that the cat is going bad. The sulfur smell is coming from the cat meaning it may be breaking down. I would change it. You can buy a magnaflow aftermarket cat for a less than 100 bucks and have it installed or you could install it yourself. This is a good time to open up the exhaust by removing the U-bend at the same time you change the cat.

I have not experienced a loss of power at all, it just quit. Should I be concerned about what caused the cat to breakdown?? Maybe something else is wrong that i should check before i ruin a new cat??

The issue that happens with cats these days it the fact that the honeycomb that makes up the cat can come apart and block the exhaust causing it to stall. When she stopped it probably opened back up. To check it just tap it lightly with a rubber hammer and if you hear metal inside then it probably needs replaced. The other issue may be too much fuel getting into the cat. This can be due to a bad O2 sensor, a bad injector or a bad plug not burning the fuel properly. One other possibility is a bad crank position sensor that could be starting to go bad. Also remember that not everything will set the CEL light when something happens especially if it is only an intermittent issue.

Update: Ifinally got a code, P0102 MAF sensor, I wil try to clean, if not replace. Hopefully this is the issue, it sounds like it matches a few other post I have read here that refer to the P0102 code. Thanks for all the input.
