just a word of caution. FWD cars don't drift. Spoon makes excellent tuner cars, but they're not drifters. they race, and race well, and i love Spoon Honda's, but the fact is, NO-one uses Honda Civics to drift.;)
on another note, it looks good so far.:D

since drifting is using power to create a lack of traction in the rear wheels to throw the back end of the car out, and use sporadic burst of throttle to spin the rears and hold the drift, technically only RWD cars can drift. FWD cars can use the e-brake, but i don't really call that drifting, since it's simply locking up the rears and the back wheels aren't doing anything but sliding motionless. i call that "ass-dragging". FWD cars can sort of drift, but not the "real" way that RWD cars can.

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!!
I dont mean for people to go out and try this, but have you ever went in reverse then cranked the wheels really quickly? that seems to work for most FWD cars....it gives the feeling of it, but your not going the right way. again...

sort of like a reverse 180...still not really drifting since the drive wheels are turning.

Sorry! Civic do drift and I do saw alot of japanese drift with EG, EK, DC and even S2000. They drift with pulling the handbrake. IMO, any cars can drift if you got the skill, if you doesn't got any, don't try these at home. Just my SG 2 cents:rolleyes: :o

well, while i don't want to ruin espin's thread and turn it into a "what can drift and what can't drift" thread, FWD cars CAN technically drift, meaning they can attain sideways intertia by simply yanking the e-brake, but in essence, it's not REAL drifting, since REAL drifting involves controlling the slide with the power input to the rear drive wheels. a FWD car just can't do that. they can drift, but not in the real sense of the word, and it's technically a totally different thing. ANYone can yank an e-brake around a corner, but it takes years of practise and skill to be able to seamlessly guide a RWD car through a corner using the power inputs to the rear tires. the only Honda's that can TRUE drift, therefore, are S2000's and NSX's. just my $0.02 Canadian. :D
anyways, let's leave this topic where it stands and focus on the actual topic of this thread.

FWD cars can sort of drift, but not the "real" way that RWD cars can.
I dont mean to get this thread off topic again, but the guy has every right to call it a drifter civic, that is because it is VERY possible for FWD cars to drift... it just takes a lot more skill, and usually more speed to do it in a FWD car. I have proof and will post the name of the video as soon as i remeber the name, but even me and some friends have been able to do this ourselves and be in total control... and in essence isnt a drift a controled sideways skid.. yes, and therefor can be done by almost any car, FWD, RWD, or 4WD

i will call it what i want, and what i'll call it is NOT drifting, because drifting IS a controlled sideways skid, yes, but it's a controlled sideways skid that's controlled by using power inputs from the rear wheels, the drive wheels. FWD's, like i said, can drift, but not in the REAL way. they can slide, but it's not REAL drifting. you're never going to change my opinion, and it appears that i'm never going to change yours, so why don't we just all drop it, mm-kay?

This is pointless, like S13 said your not gonna change each other's opinions.
I think the people who like FWD insist they can drift, IMO they can't, but nothing will change you opinions.
FWD drifting IMO is almost like magic, people make it look like they're doing something but really they are not doing the real thing, it's just an imitation/illusion of what they are doing.

thats not true. At the HCI Magazine US Drift Nationals Marc Rosso took second with a 94 civic. Also Hata Keyama drifts with front wheel drive. RWD may be the popular choice now, but I have a feeling that it will soon be more of an even spread. :smokin: :iceslolan

Jammin, did you have to post such an obnoxiously large picture? It didnt even finish loading and im on cable! Anyway, I've seen a video of the exact Civic. He is pulling the e-brake and using the front wheels to pull the car. I wouldn't consider it drifting as much as I would consider it ass-dragging.

ok. abviously, nobody knows that drifting just doesn't include yousing raw power to muscle your way over a turn. drifting is an art. there are many techniques. various techniques are called: side, shift lock, power over, braking a form of drifting that works for civics, feint wich is turning one way then jolting the car in the direction of the turn to drift wich civics can utilize, accel off wich is basically drift from a speed burst (civic can utilize this).
you can download the movie from kazaa called super drift techniques if you dont believe me.
it just goes to show you drifting is not what you thought it was, pulling the e-brake is just as much drifting as swinging the rear with your power.
take a canvus, for painting, and you youse oil paints, its like saying water paint isn't painting.

10-28-2003, 11:44 PM
drifting is a form of driving which involves loosing traction to slide around corners... usually rich kids prolly can't do it, and the best drifters are from japan and yes, yes it is more or less to show off, but its not easy!
TougeMonkey
10-29-2003, 12:00 AM
Ok, here's how I see it. Back in 1999-2000, when the first D1 GP (professional Japanese drift contest) began in Japan, there were front wheel drive entrants. They even placed decently. But look at D1 now. It's all rear wheel drive.
So in summary. FF cars can drift, but once you get to a certain level you can't touch a FR.
Sorry to hijack your thread espin, it is a nice looking EK!
