:bloated: yo, my cuzin has a 92' Eagle Talon Tsi AWD, and his old
4g63 exploded, he's wonderin if he could put the Evo 8's engine in, i know they both have the same engine but do u guys kno how much the Evo 8 engine will cost?? Thanks:sun:

it would cost more to get an evo 8 clip or crate motor just because it is from an evo and you would get no benefits

It won'f fit anyways.

how would it not fit? I thought they were both the same engines?? I dunno though but thanx for replying

Are you kidding? The motor mounts are completely different, Motor is completely rotated, drive train is different...c'mon bro, do your home work. I know there other sites that you visit, they'll tell you the same thing.

Someone I know here in the UK imported an Eclipse engine for their Evo II because it was around HALF the price of a 'genuine' Ralliart-stamped replacement; buying one from 'Bishi will probably be more expensive, but if you can find an early one from a scrapper/write-off maybe that would solve your problem ?
Apparently up the the Evo IV the engines were the same, then Mitsubishi started fiddling & the V, VI etc arent interchangeable [someone please correct me if I'm wrong tho !]

Just get another '92 engine and rebuild it, then you can run it a lot harder.

those 92' engines are pretty hard to find. my cuz tried to find one, but most of them have cracked turbo, or somethins wrong wit the engine. Well n e ways, which engine runs the best, 92-99' DSM motors??

Any engine from a 92-94 is good, don't get a 95-99 turbo engine unless you like getting into trouble.

heh? thanks, another question of my cuz is that, which turbo is better and can pick up more power faster?? A Big 16g turbo or the 18g Turbo??

There are basically 2 different 4G63 engines :::
From 89 - 92 :: 6-bolt crank , big rods , lower comp pistons..
From 93 - 99 :: 7 bolt crank , smaller rods , higher comp pistons.....
The second engine had serious problems with a phenomenon called "crankwalk" , any and all years from 93 - 99 can have this happen....
The one you want is the early motor because of the bigger rods it can hold more boost , and no problems with "crankwalk".....:D :D

I'm not even sure that the 18G is available anymore....and in any case the Big 16 would spool fairly quickly..
Actually all Mitsu turbo's spool fairly quickly , even the 20G.....:bandit: :alien2:

Look at some dsm sites, you can pick up a built (eagle rods, wiesco pistons, clevite bearing, ect..) 6-bolt short block for like $1,500+, you want JE pistons and Crower rods, it goes $2,100+ and either will be way stronger than a stock internal evo motor. A Big16g with everything ported and a full 3" ex. will hit 15psi by 3100rpm.

Actually, do all of that and a motorcycle will still outrun you. As stated above, while the engine found in the Evo 8 has the same engine code of 4G63 (T), it is far from the same engine that was found in the turbo eclipse. If you are facing the engine, on the eclipse, the cam gears will be on the right, but on the Evo, they will be to the left. The transmission is also very different, as it uses electronic differentials where the Eclipse used mechanical differentials. The Evo 8 uses a new design turbocharger as well, which allows it to make more boost lower in the rpm range. I'm not sure it is a twin scroll, but it does have multiple chambers in either the compressor or turbine housing. Either way, the engine code is the only thing that is the same, so no, it will not fit. You should either get a 1990 to May of 1992 6 bolt or a Cyclone engine (JDM 4G63) from either a Galant VR-4 or Evo I through III.

There several theories regarding crankwalk......
#1 is that the thrust bearing area inside the 7-bolt engines (the large center bearing with flanges) is too small , and does not have enuff oil pressure in that area...
#2 is that crankwalk seems to occur in the 7-bolt engines on cars using a heavy clutch pressure plate , like an ACT 2600....
Basically what happens is the thrust bearing gets worn away and the crank starts moving back and forth inside the engine.Eventually , if this goes on long enuff , it can cause severe internal damage , if the rods move far enuff out of line ,the motor can seize.... Every time the clutch is pushed in , it creates a lot of force on that bearing...And much more so with a heavy clutch.
If you have an automatic car , crankwalk is pretty unusual , as there is little or no pressure on the thrust bearing:bandit:

Is there anyway to eliminate the "crank walk" in a 96 motor?

Ok, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret... Nobody from this thead is in these forums anymore. If you wanna know something like how to prevent crankwalk, don't ask in a thread that is 3 years old. Look for more recent ones like within the last month or so. If you bring back threads this old your gonna make a lot of enemies quick. I'm just trying to help ya out before people start bashin ya for this... If you have any questions about the forums or need help with anything, just send me a PM and I'll try to help ya out. Other than that, welcome to Automotive Forums.
