Buying a old car as a first car

Hello I'm new to this forum this is my first post. I'm 19 I've recently started working and I'm hoping to get a car soon. I've always had my heart set on a older car preferably a 70's or 80's Cutlass Supreme but I don't want to buy a car and start repairing it right away. I was wondering if anyone had any experience buying an older car as there first car or any info on the Cutlass Supreme in general.

If you're dead-set on getting a classic as your first car, I'm sure you will be able to find one that will get you around and it would be fun to have the classic looks of the car. As far as repairs, you won't find one that is 'maintenance free' - keep in mind you're buying something 30-40 years old! And unless you're forking out $30-50K for a restored model, that means lots of the parts are likely to be original. If you're not handy with a wrench or don't have a passion for a project car, I would suggest you wait until you can afford the Cutlass as a second car. Even if you get something cheap as a primary driver and spend the rest on a Cutlass, at least then you'd have something 21'st century that you can count on to start in the morning. You know all those classifieds saying 'project car - no time to finish' - yep, it all started this way...

Yea my suggestion would be to buy something reliable until you can afford to do a good rebuild or restoration as a 2nd car/project.

A 90's Impala for $3500 shouldn't be a problem - will be a great highway cruiser. See if you can find one with the poundin' 5.7L LT1 V8, even the SS model.

A 90's impala will be pretty nice for a cruiser, just keep in mind you will be forking out a fair penny for gas.

Ok so it's looking like a 90s impala is the car for me still gonna keep my eyes open though.

Hi, I just looked around and finding a decent '90s Impala for under $7k is going to be tough, maybe look at a Caprice?
