sudden loud ticking

95 LeSabre, 3.8L, approx 140K. Sudden noise started low and continued to increase. Thought it may be in the alternator or idler pulley. Pulled Serpentine belt and started car, noise was gone. Pulled Alt and had tested, no noise. replaced pulley as it was also grooving and saw metal splinters on back side of it. No luck. Noticed when A/C kicked on it got louder, but yet didnt change alot when unit kicked off.

Unsure if it was a fluke or not, but when backing out of driveway, put car in Neutral and noise was gone, back into gear and it was back.

Any thoughts?

Tough to diagnose noises from here, if gone with no belt we must assume it is accessory related, also check the balancer for the outer hub seperating.

Balancer was the issue.

Thanks
