At the dealership now working out the final numbers but I'm getting a new car! Trading out the Mazda for it. Matt knows what it is, but I'm gonna let you all guess till I get home. Here are some hints:

RWD
6 Speed
Probable Cause Red
300hp
6 cylinders

Does the new TSX have 300hp? Cause my friend has an 05 or so and it is slow as hell lol. His also only has the K24

CassiesMan
05-29-2010, 05:33 PM
Lol no to both accounts. Though the TSX is nice and I'm trying to get the girl to look at one. At lunch with her fam now, pictures coming soon, but two more hints:

Completely useless coupe and named after a play...

^Youz getz tha cookiez!

Or, as I texted The Stig this morning "I can haz VQ35DE".

I've been looking at a few, and was about to drive down to Austin on Monday when I swung by a local Acura place that had a Redline Red 2006 Base on the lot with 30k miles on the clock. After about thirty minutes of wheeling and dealing, the sales guy offered me a baller deal on the car AND my Mazdaspeed, the type that I would have hated myself for passing up. So we did the paper work, came to an agreeable price, and I've been driving my new Z around all day. God damn did I miss RWD, lol.

Plans aren't anything major this time. I just wanted a fun to drive sports car that will last me a bit till I get to a more mature place in life, at which point I'll tear down the motor, build the hell out of it, and throw gobs of boost at it. For the mean time, I'll be perfectly happy with some bolt ons, might get a Nismo LSD, and learn how to slide, lol.

Pictures will come as soon as I get it all cleaned up to my standards. Till then...

And yes, I have already ordered the "FairladyZ" badge. I am that JDM Tyte. Yo.

Congrats Cassiesman! Damn, I test drove a friends Z not too long ago and was very happy driving it around. I wanted the G35 though to be a little bit different of course. What year by chance? Hopefully an 05 or up. I hear the Brembo brakes are a costly peice for the introduction models they were installed on.

VQ35DE does sound very tempting even in my case (as I am STILL looking lol). I hope all goes well for you with this car. For future reference, post up some pros and cons of the vehicle. I'd really like to know short and long term reliability of this car.

Woot you got an 06 (I think) so you has the VQHR! My boss used to have a twin turbo Z and it was a badass car. You will enjoy it, they are fun cars to drive even N/A!

CivRacer95
05-30-2010, 05:19 AM
Woops just caught that it was an 06 in the COLOR Redline Red. For some reason I thought he was talking about and looking at an Ion Redline in Red that was an 06 model.

Silly me...

CassiesMan
05-30-2010, 10:47 AM
It doesn't have the VQ35HR, but the DE Rev Up. Basically, unlike the 03-05 DE, it has intake and exhaust cam timing, and a different plenum, so it makes 300hp and 280ftlb. The HR make 306 and 287, so thats something that can be compensated for with and intake, lol. But yeah, I love it. I plan on posting up all the pros and cons as I learn to live with a useless, tiny, RWD sports car.

Pros: No back seat, so now I don't need to drive to the war zones that are grocery stores around here!

So how does it feel compared to the MS3? You've got to love getting back to a proper drive layout again (RWD).

Its a bit slower than the Speed3, but not by a terrible amount, and more than makes up for it in fun factor. I've already hung the rear end out around a few bends locally, and the fact that I can take this thing up to 6800rpm worry free is wonderful. The sound is amazing, and I've always said as much about the VQ.

This car is proving already that fast=/=fun. I'm trying to get it on some rollers here locally to get a baseline, and I want to get it up on a lift to really get an understanding of the exhaust. I really wanna figure out how it is set up, as I want to go true dual based on the sound.

Oh, and I already had my first kill in it...a mosquito sneaked in when I was unloading the car, and I unleashed the hate on it.

Sweet ride!

Cliffs on plan for car?

Well, I want to avoid turning into a "race" car and just kinda have fun driving it with some basic bolt ons. Which doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense because I've already talked to Kelford about doing some custom cams, figured out who the best Z tuners in the area are, and called HKS and GReddy for my pricing on supercharger and turbo kits.

But it isn't going to be a race car, I promise. Most likely just I/H/E/tune...

And then every thing else.

TorchedStealth
06-02-2010, 12:07 PM
The Greddy TT kit is pretty sweet! So is the Stillen supercharger kit, but of course you would never think of molesting that car in such a way

VR43000GT

A couple of the 350Z guys we hang out with have some pretty quick rides. One is running on a single turbo and the other a procharger. The 350 with the procharger sounds wicked at idle.

Congrats on the purchase. Damn I haven't been here in a while. Cassie you drove a MS3 before you got the Z? I was already gone when you got the MS3, what did you drive before that?

I love the Z as well, that was one of my other choices when I was shopping around for a car. But for the love of god do not a procharger kit for the Z. If you intend to make a lot of power later on, I would get something from sound performance or APS and to a lesser extend the greddy tt kit but ditch the e manage to get a real stand alone.

Yeah I'm probably gonna go TT way down the line. Before the MS3 I had the 325i. It was half the reason why I ended up getting this car, I just missed RWD so much, lol.

Its an acquired skill set that has served me well.

Oh, and got her up on Jotech's rollers the other day. Just about 100 degrees on the nose for ambient and I did 239hp at peak, 209tq at the cross over, 220tq at peak torque. Power and torque were consistent for all three pulls, varied by tenths here and there. Wideband was smooth and consistent across all three pulls, looked good. Sat down with their head tuner to see what he liked to work with, and he's a Z guy as well so she'll be in good hands when it comes time to put her under the knife. And he can do Nitrous tunes!

Baseline done, time to do some modding!

I still check these forums every few months or so, when the other forums I frequent run out of interesting content. I just thought I'd point out the rabid hypocrisy and irony this thread has brought out:

Because as nice as it sounds, the VQ35 is useless without FI, and FI on those motors is retarded expensive for not that much gain.

Zs are ok. Nice little car. Over rated if you ask me. For the money I'd pick alot of other cars first. I've only run one Z in a three way with a very nicely done RSX at the same time. Neither I nor the RSX were impressed with the headlights.

From the last thread I was in that made me realize the reason I originally left this place alone: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=910298&page=2

Feel free to talk about me. I might respond in a few months. Just thought this thread was hilarious, considering.

I'm failing to see the point your trying to make? I did research, I test drove a bunch of cars in the same market (RX8 which was a close second, S2k which didn't even register, and a used Goat but personal grudges kept me from buying that), I found that the Z best fit my needs. I still hold that the Z cannot see very much power without fully building the motor or going FI. That isn't conjecture or hearsay, its a fact. Hell, in the HR specific forums on my350z.com, they aren't hitting 300 wheel without the bottle or cams, and at that time my car purchase was based on ease of ability to make power. My specific needs and desires have changed now, and my vehicle purchase reflected that. I changed my mind on the Z. Unlike you, who still acts like Rear Admiral Cuntnugget of Her Magisty's Royal Ship Douchecanoe. Like I said, some people change, looks like you didn't.

And it wasn't a complex. See, I don't think I'm better than you. I know I'm better than you.
