2007 Dakota Engine cut out

My 2007 Dakota Quad Cab V6 engine cut out for a second the other day while driving at about 60 kmh with the ac on. I heard the chime go off and sudden power loss for about a second, and then I instinctively tried to press on the gas and the engine kicked in and revved high until I let off. The whole time the transmission was in drive. Once I let off the gas, the transmission "kicked in" and the car drove normally after that. I didn't notice any other odd behaviour prior to this incident.

Any ideas what may have caused this?

I can't help on this issue, but it must be a Dakota thing. My 05 did something similar right after I bought it. Got in started up and began driving, then one by one the idiot lights dinged on. When it dinged the service engine, the engine just died. I was in a parking light fortunately, so coasted to a stop, engaged park and restarted. Fired right up, no idiot lights, and it has not done that again in 5 years. :screwy:
