Help picking Rims

I have an 87 DeVille and i'm about to get rims for it. I'm a pre-thinker, so I'm already planning on selling this car and know a choice of what car I'd like to buy next. The problem is the Caddy is Front Wheel Drive, and all the cars I'm looking at are Rear Wheel Drive. Will the FWD rims fit on a RWD car? Does it come down to lug pattern, and if so couldn't I get an adapter? Thanks for the help.

Althought it varies in general most FWD rims will not fit on a RWD car because FWD cars tend to have high offsets and RWD drive cars tend to a have low offsets.

In simple terms, the offset of a wheel determines how far "in" or "out" the wheel is to the car. The higher the offset, the more in the wheel is, the lower the offset the more out the wheel is. Assume that you're either directly in front or directly behind the car when you're looking at tire.

I would not recommend adapters, probably to sell your old wheels and use the cash towards your new ones.
