2000 Tahoe Trans Slip

Have a 2000 Tahoe with 160,000k. For 6 months the transmission has been slipping only after the truck has been on highway for over an hr and you slow down to 2nd gear and then speed up to 70mph, like going thru toll. From 40-55 mph hr the vehicle slips 200-400 rpm for spilt seconds when hitting 4th gear, once over 65 it goes away. Sometimes stays lock into 200 rpm higher. Took to trans shop and was told I need new trans. He rebuilt orginal with rebuilt torque converter and two weeks later it started again. Brought it back and he put 3 new soleniods in.(one was lock-up soleniod) Left shop and once warmed up did it again. Brought back and this time he put in a whole new remanufactured unit and new torgue converter. He said the original showed excessive signs of wear on torque with only 1000k on it. Again an hr down the road same thing. Trans mechanic said no codes show up on computer. Brought it back and he gave it a complete tune up thinkin a misfire was talking to computer and transmissin responding to that. Samething, starts slipping at 40-55mph. Mechanic is at a lost. He has called Chevy dealer to get help. Dealer said they have 2 trucks in shop with same problem and they can't figure out. Any suggestions? Seems to be problem on 99-2000 Chevy trucks.

It would be correct to give your engine and old /new body style ..

with these vehicles if the engine where having issues the check engine light would come on..

If the transmission had issues the use of a scanner with the ability to read oem drivetrain codes is required...


lets says with the proper scanners you truely have no dtc failure codes...then I would do the fuel pressure test with a guage and also operate the vehicle with the pressure guage connected when driving for a period of time that this does occur..with your mileage/age the fuel delievery system is a system that can give the issues you are having.


fuel pump/fuel pump grounds/ fuel pump relay/regulator..etc..

with the following of the fuel pressure testing proceedure you can determine if this system is working correctly..........

This is the old body style, rear wheel drive, 5.7 Vortec V8. The check engine light has never come on in this truck. Fuel pump was replaced about 2 years ago.

Gave the Tahoe complete tune up with fuel pressure reading perfect. Turns out, looks to be a cooling flow problem with lock out solinoid malfuctioning when higher temp occurs at long intervals of driving. Original radiator is in this truck.
