99 Rear Ac lines

I have a 99 suburban with rear ac. Last summer the rear ac would blow clod and the front would not. I took it to my local mechanic and he stated maybe there was a leak so he performed a dye leak test. Found the leak under the rear passenger door as lines where my running board mounts where rubbing against the lines. Where can i find lines that are not going to cost me a arm an leg (like at the dealer)? I have heard of people replacing them with hydrolic lines. Is this a good alternative?

You should check to see if any shops around you have the kit. They can repair your leak without having to buy the new lines.

I doubt that are any alternatives for the factory A/C hoses...espeically on a truck with rear A/C. You might find a dedicated A/C shop somewhere that will make some, but those hoses on a suburban are unique.

I have had to replace my rear a/c high pressure side line twice since owning the vehicle.Last time was in 2007.I didn't think that 160 dollars was overly expensive for the line and three o-rings.The replacement lines came in two pieces.It was easier to install that way.If you need to change the the high side,I removed most of the inner fender mount bolts and shaved some of the inner fender so I would be able to pull the inner fender out of the way.This helps to install the new line.There is approximately ten clamps that hold the lines onto the vehicle.In the rear wheel well there are two clamps that hold the heater hoses and right beside them,the a/c lines.These two clamps have a longer reach to mount with the screw.The a/c lines run over top of the reach.The last time I did the job,I got the system evacuated,replaced the line and then had the system checked for leaks and then recharged.I hope this is helpful for you.

I believe there are AC line filters which attach after a metal line is cut, intended to be a filter, but can also serve as a "union" to repair a metal line.

Me - I'd install a Swagelok union (that's how it's spelled, do a "Search"), they're the best, we use them in the lab for hydrogen and helium, the smallest molecultes, only ones we'll use. Find which metal your line is made of (usually aluminum) and whether the outer diameter is either metric or standard, and its measurement. Buy a Swagelok union in that metal, it will come with front ferrules, back ferrules, and nuts, cut out the bad piece (maybe 1.5 inches), and install the Swagelok union.

IF were me...I would stick with the GM hoses.... you might be able to find a cheaper source online...like gmpartsdirect.com or somewhere else.

GM makes good A/C products....don't think I would waste money or time with something else, espeically given these special hoses.
