Hi,
I just bought a Focuz Ait Intake for my 1990 Civic LX 1.5 liter engine.
The intake only costs 60 bucks compared to AEM or K/N which want at least 150 bucks for AEM and about 180 for K/N.
My quesitonis does it really matter on brand?
I couldnt afford a k/n or AEM so I bought the Focuz air intake from autodynamic.com
Any aftermarket intake system is better than having the stock air box right?
I should at least get a 5-6 hp increase right?
What will the intake really do? Help in take off or top end power?
Thanks,
Owen

It doesn't really matter what brand. I got the generic cold air. I used the AEM filter though. I think its all bout the filter and the pipe size. I dont believe it adds 5-7 hp. They say that bullshit to sell.

yea, most of its the filter, but some of it is the pipe and shit. You really won't notice a big difference with a stock engine, mainly when you start doing major things to your car, then you will start noticing something.

I'm pretty sure all intakes work the same. Only difference is between the short ram, and the cold air intake. And i'm pretty sure everyone here would already know that.
They say it add's 5-7hp. Yeah it does but thats to the flywheel. You might get 3-4 to the wheels if your lucky. But like Tony said it will start to make a bigger difference on a moded engine.

I swear I heard someone say that you can only put those types of intakes on a stick. Will they work with automatic transmissions as well? (Now that I think about it, why would it make a difference..)

geez the reason why AEM costs sooooo much is that they are CARB cert kinda like i found out that there are WAY better headers for less money than DC sports but DC has a CARB cert on the header so u pay more for that and yes DC is a name so that is another reason they are more $$$ but serious for us people in CA if u buy a AEM u wont have to take it off to smog the smog tech looks at it and goes OK looks good (as long as u have that sticker u are golden)

A big thing that i have found that makes a difference on an intake is the size of the piping. 2.5" is good for a D-series.

See, the thing is, AEM and other big companies, actually do R&D on their products. Then here comes Mr Generic, and all he has to do is copy AEM's specs, but using inferior, poor quality parts.
I prefer to have good quality parts, from a well known company.

im with him. Call me a moron, I don't care. I will pay the extra $$$ for parts that have had R&D put into it, rather than some copy cats that slap something together.
