Hi, my husband has an '07 Cobalt and for the last month when he parks and goes to remove the key he can't, it won't turn back all the way to remove it. He has to sit there for a minute, sometimes two, before he hears a click and then he can turn the key back the rest of the way and pull it out.
Advice please?
Thank you! Have a wonderful weekend.

Call the dealer and check if this is covered under warranty. Try wiggling the steering wheel and check if it releases.
You may need a new one.

he's wiggled the steering wheel pretty good at times, and he's turned the key forward and ran through the gears and back to park, but that doesn't help either. It's got over 52k miles on it... I'll email the dealer... thanks

The tumblers in the ignition lock cylinder have dropped down and lock the key in there and you cant get it out until you wiggle the tumblers back into place. You need to either replace the ignition lock cylinder or take it to the dealer and have them rebuild the lock cylinder. its pretty common on these models.

thanks. We brought it in and they replaced the shifter control. It was something electrical and worn out I believe. Haven't had a problem since!
