I hope to scan in some pics - unless others care to do so if they have it already - of the latest EVO magazine. Apparently, it has the following
It's the July Evo - though Octane may have some stuff too.
They've several multi-page articles:
- 20 years of the F1 (2 pages)
- The Gathering (4 pages)
- Harold's Secret F1 Workshop (4 pages)
- John Barker - after 15 years (6 pages)
- After 20 years Gordon still hates the bracket (4 pages)
- Dan Head (1 page)
- A wing, and prayer and a can of WD40 (4 pages)
- Road Racer - the F1 GTR (2 pages)
- Ron Dennis (2 pages)
- McLarens to the max (2 pages)
- Living the dream (5 pages)
- Peter Stevens (4 pages)
- The forgotten McLaren (1 page)
and some crap about a new car.

I really hope that shot of #01R becomes a wallpaper on EVO's website - it's beautiful! Same with the shot of #068 coming down the straight at Watkins Glen. Maybe we will get lucky and they'll have expanded content on their website too.
Favorite quote so far after reading most of the pages:
"For me you shouldn't buy an F1 if you are not going to use it properly. This 1997 car had only done just over 2000 miles when I got it - a miserable total over 13 years. They were designed to be driven and not to be owned purely for speculation." - Dan Watkins
Most disappointing inaccuracy in the text so far - in the section on the Workshop where the years for the F1 GTR variants are identified as '94, '95 & '96. :uhoh: They do get it right later on when captioning a small photo on page 97 in the section on #01R.
Speaking of that section - the story relayed by Graham Humphrys about troubles with #01R in the lead up to Le Mans is one I have never seen told. What a great piece of history - making their triumph all the more impressive!

Thanks for the headsup hurst, and champion effort by microsup for the scans.
EVO is my favourite car mag, (so much better then the local mags and TG, Car etc in my opinion), but this is the icing on the cake-When I first saw the thread title I thought maybe there's a small writeup like they did on the converted GTR that was for sale a while back but this-this is just brilliant. Looking forward to sitting down somewhere nice and quiet with a few cold ones to soak this up.

July Issue? You mean year 2010 issue? as it is only May now. And so this is the #145 issue?
Sorry bout the noob question as I've just registered here. Big fans of McLaren F1 and this forum is a great site for McLaren F1 related infos.
Would definately get one of this issue when it has landed here.

Russ, it seems it was a misunderstanding at Art Editor level at EVO HQ -
Hello all,
First, apologies to Flemke for the fact that his car was not included in the line-up of twenty cars.
Here's what happened from our point of view.
Far from not wanting to include Flemke's F1, the very opposite was true. We'd asked him if we could run a major feature on his car in this issue, detailing all the work he's had done. After giving it some thought, he eventually declined. Which was absolutely fair enough.
The message then reached our art desk that Flemke didn't want his car featured in the issue. The art editors, acting in good faith, took this at face value and excluded the specific shot that had been taken of the front of Flemke's car.
It was a simple misunderstanding, and if it has caused Flemke or anyone else to think worse of us, then we regret that deeply. We are massively appreciative of the help he has given us in previous issues and we sincerely hope that he will consider working with us again in the future.
Once again, apologies for any offence caused. It most certainly wasn't intended.

It seems the idea that flemke didn't want a multi-page "feature" was conflated with the idea that he didn't want his car featured at all, or to have any distinct appearance, in the magazine.
I think this can happen with anyone, but the confusing blend of self-deprecation and pride, of understanding and biting criticism that flemke has may have added to the magazine getting their footwork tangled.

I think Patrick's question is centered more around why flemke said no to the new feature.
There's some discussion of that on PistonHeads as well from him, but rather than any one of us trying to paraphrase his comments, I'd suggest anyone who is interested in finding the answer begin reading his posts on this page (http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=375461&mid=34901&i=4020) of the current 'Flemke - is this your McLaren?' thread over there.

In the Gordon Murray article on page 092 (ones that got away) it mentions about a car that I've had never heard about before - the 1996 McLaren PGTB that had was a 2+2 mid-engined one off special built for the Sultan of Brunei and was powered by the McLaren F1's V12 - does anybody have any further information or pictures of this car?

EVO Magazine have a pretty cool contest running right now. It would be great if someone from this crowd were able to win it. :naughty:
Win a McLaren F1 experience
Join evo when we test a McLaren F1
Evo is testing a McLaren F1 trackcar and you've got an exclusive chance to join us. You'll get a chance to go behind the scenes and see how we shoot and test supercars, and (subject to circuit regulations) get to sit in the passenger seat for some full-pelt laps with an experienced road tester. A tour of McLaren's swish Technology Centre is also part of the prize.
Closing date: 23rd June 2010
Register to win here: http://competitions.evo.co.uk/win-a-mclaren-f1-experience
This also seems to imply there will be another upcoming feature in EVO on the F1.

Last time EVO run a competition like this, the winner had a few laps around Silverstone in #08R the West Adrenaline car. I posted the article some time back (photo,s I think). If I have some free time soon, I,ll run it through the scanner this time.
If I am the lucky winner  I,ll pass the ride and MTC tour onto Great Ormond Street Childrens hospital, now that would really make, a terminally ill child very happy . Especially if Lewis or Jenson was behind the wheel.
I never did meet up with Mr B, for a ride out in #16R. But if he gets an HDF I,m sure he will still have a seat open for me :uhoh:.

Such a STUNNING issue of EVO with all the F1's. Just got a copy yesterday and it's really fantastic to see all the interest in the most amazing supercar ever. I read up on Gordon Murray's new T25 and they hope to create 6000 new jobs and should have four prototypes completed by next year. It's nice to see Mr. Murray continuing his leadership, even though it's a totally different kind of car, but what was truly hilarious is the T25's central seating position. I guess you can't get the F1 out of the master can you? LOL!

Martin, GOSH is the reason i'm alive (another story, another day). Thank you so much for being so thoughtful
I picked up my 2 issues today :)
Can't wait to read it tonight :D :D
Hi Chris,
Thankyou so kindly for your compliment, as you know me rather well, you would agree that those kind of gestures fit well within my character. I just need to win the competition first and if I was ever lucky enough to own an F1, there would be alot of smiling faces about, thats for sure :).

Thankyou for your gesture, but please, by all means do enter the competition, with a bit of luck, one of us here on the forum may win :).

Just like to add in this thread, that it was really great to see that Lewis and Jenson both took some time out last week, to pop into GOSH and spend some quality time with the children, who are poorly at this moment in time.

I was just suggesting you could have come to that conclusion back when the scans were hosted, but I guess you didn't give it much attention until you had the magazine in hand. I definitely assumed you were correct with those comments in the earlier discussion. :)

Issue 146 has been out for a couple of weeks now. In it are some letters in regards to the "F1" issue including a reader's snapshot of a dark coloured F1 wearing UK trade plate "049 PF". Looks like it may be XP5 taken early last fall as that's roughly the same time XP5 was spotted wearing the same plate.
