Vibrations / sound at high speed

Hi everybody;

I've a Toyota Camry 2001 with terrible vibrations at high speed.

If I drive above 80 km/h, you can feel these vibrations, at 110 - 130 km/h they're really loud! You can feel the vibrations with your feet on the ground, or at the door.

- And if I make a high speed turn to the left, the noise and vibrations disappear! the sound is like; hang.. hang.. hang,

- If the car is heavy loaded, the sound is also less!

- I don't feel any vibrations or what so ever in my steeringwheel, and the car drives terrific, only when you release the steeringwheel, it slightly goes to the right a little bit....

- I changed al the tires, balanced them 2 times extra

- Changed the bearings in the front


I already drove 20.000 miles with this, no engineer knows what it is.

Does anyone knows?

Since you feel the vibration in the car and not in the steering wheel the issue is likely to be in the rear of the car. If your balancing was only performed on the front wheel, then make sure to have the rears balanced and inspected for odd wear/cupping. You should also swap the front tires for the rears and vice versa just to confirm that does not make a difference. Next would be to inspect the rear brakes to make sure there isn't a problem there. But if that would the case I'd expect you to have a change in the vibration when stepping lightly on the brake pedal. You could also inspect or replace the rear wheel bearings which would be consistent with the vibration changing when turning.

I would also have all the suspension bushings and struts checked for wear. A worn out strut or weak spring can magnify any tire/wheel imbalance. And worn out suspension bushings or steering linkages can allow vibration when you go faster. Hope this helps!

My backtires are already replaced, and I changed the wheels from the front to the back.

I didn't see any difference.

I also aligned my car, and all the wheels are also balanced a second time.

also when i drive on a slow speed over speed bumbs etc, i hear sometimes

' klak' klak'.

yes like he sais if you don't feel it in steering it's in the rear. did you put diffirent tires or rims on it? also are you running the air psi. what it calls for on tire if so you need to look at your door or manual to see recommended to your psi. don't never go with air psi thats on the tire. but like he said it's in the rear most likley. also you can have a belt sliped or broken and you can balance the tires all you want and when you put it back on and still have the problem. look at the weights they put on and see if they added a bunch of them to your rim that would be a clue. unless it's the struts and or shocks and springs like he said and on the cupping on tires.

Check to see if your exhaust is hitting the underside of the car.
That can cause the type of noise/vibration you are describing.
A quick way to check would be to grab the tailpipe and wiggle it back and forth and see/feel if it is hitting anything.
Could be a broken exhaust hanger or isolator. :2cents:
