Water pump replace

I am replacing my water pump on my 2000 3.8 Mustang. The old (factory) part had a seating for the O ring but the new part does not and when I insert the hose on the top it pushes the O ring down into the part and cause antifreeze to still leak out. How can I stop this from happening?
