Help, 99 Ignition switch major problem

Hi

I have a problem with my 99 4x4 Blazer ignition switch that I need a bit of advice on.

When I turn the engine off it won't always go back to the off position. Pressing the button doesn't always work and I have to fiddle with it back and forth before it eventually turns off.

Also, no matter what position the switch is in I can take the key out even when driving along.

Question is how easy is it to change the barrel? Also I have a spare, wrecked blazer that I have been taking parts off and it has a good switch so I can swap it over. What parts will I need to swap?

Problem is these cars are very rare here in the UK (and I have 2!) and also manuals are very hard to find.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers, Ron

Have you tried a different key? Sometimes the key can cause similar problems if there is a burr on it.

This might help. The thread is about 6 years old, but the information is still acurate.
