New Problems

After experiencing the UIM failure and repairing the car, I have a couple of new problems. The Check engine light is on and I believe it is from the fact that the idle on the car now seems to be the bare minimum to keep the car running. With the AC on, the idle is kicked up and doesn't experience the "chugging" that is there with it off.

The second problem is that the car will not shift into overdrive. I hesitate to think that the tranny is going since it was perfect until the UIM failed and hasn't shifted into OD since the repair.

I'm going to buy a scanner in a couple days but since I had surgery 2 days ago, it's gonna have to wait til I can move!!

First, you need to post the year of the car before we can help. Did you disconnect the battery negative (-) battery cable first, before the UIM replacement?

Oops...sorry.

It's a '97 Limited. I disconnected the battery before doing the UIM replacement.

The car runs great as long as you aren't at an idle. The OD problem is the one that concerns me the most but any thoughts on either are appreciated.

I'm going to buy a scanner in a couple days but since I had surgery 2 days ago, it's gonna have to wait til I can move!!I hope you feel well soon! Let us know what the code(s) are when you get the scanner. The UIM replacement should have nothing to do with OD engagement. If the gear selector is in OD, then the PCM handles the rest. Hopefully, you did remove the battery negative (-) cable first, not the positive (+) cable, which can cause arching & voltage spikes that can damage the PCM.

Sorry I've taken so long to reply. I got the scanner and found that the code showed a vacuum leak. I found a broken connector and replaced it and that code went away.
