Hey!
So for a few weeks now my s-10 has had trouble starting. Sometimes it'll start right up and sometimes i have to turn the key 20+ times. Im taking it to a mechanic on Monday and i just wanted to get a few other opinions b4 i go. heres a few details...
- truck is a 2000 S-10 LS 4 cyd 2WD Automatic
- i have a sound system...and some people fucked with it. Cause im a girl, boys will often mess with my vehicle thinking they are helping me out when in reality i can handle my truck just fine most of the time. The day they "fixed" it was around the same time this problem started. My deck is wired to my ignition switch, but i dont think they messed with that part of my sound system.
- I havent changed my fuel filter in days. And yesterday i was thinking maybe my truck is not getting enough gas to start so i tried pumping the gas a few times while i turned the key and it started right up. maybe that could be it?
- like i said, sometimes it'll start right up and sometimes i have to turn the key like 20 times then it'll just start randomly when im turning the key like a mad woman
- New battery and O2 sensor. recently passed smog!! So no check engine light is on
- car has had previous issues with battery connections wiggling loose, but not since i bought this new batter 6 months ago and i tightened them but it didnt help
- truck will make a quiet "whining" noise it it does not turn over. not in the engine but more so in my starter area
- Someone suggested to check out the fuses and im sure thats not where the problem is
Pretty much im just trying to decipher is it could maybe be my starter, maybe my fuel filter, or some other electrical problem. Ive herd it could be so many things!!!
pls e-mail me at [email protected] ([email protected]) or call my call or text my cell at 530/ 344-3292. Thanks for all the help!!

Sounds like a bad starter. If the "humming" noise lasts for a couple of seconds after you let of the key its probably the starter motor turning but the bendix isn't kicking the gear out to engage the ring gear.

Hi, I don't know if you resolved this, but if it was not the starter, and "the boy's" were "playing" with your system, it sounds like it could possibly be drawing more power and your alternator might not be able to properly keep up with the demand when you have a "Load" on the system. You may want to see if when all accessory items are off (radio, wipers, etc) if it runs better.
I am not sure if you can just get a larger alternator, but you may want to look into a solar trickle charger for your cig lighter when you are between road trips.
However, this would not explain the noise you are mentioning.
Good Luck,
Aileen
