I just bought a 95 s-10 LS ex-cab 4.6, Z vin with 186k miles and a 5 speed manual transmission.
My only real trouble is a grinding sound when i let out the clutch in first gear as it starts to roll i get a grinding noise from the transmission and you can run through the rest of the gears , even float them . I have been told everything from lose spring in the clutch assembly, to the insert gear is bad or just replace the whole thing. I can believe its trashed it just shifts to good expect for starting out. but i not a pro . So any input?

Does it make same noise in reverse or if you take off in second gear?

yes it does, in reverse and 2nd as well . It may do it rarely if your down shifting in to 2nd or 3rd ...ie when turning a corning ...it seem to be some what RPM related somtimes.

Better check your clutch plate and pressure plate and throw out bearing.
With transmission in neutral does it make noise when you hold clutch pedal down?

Better pull transmission and have a look at the clutch.

After all the running around and stuff sure enough it was the clutch and I was able to get it done for $ 310 . The big name shops in town wanted 800, 900 and one even wanted 1175 to replace the clutch. Thank God for a honest Mech and thanks for you input as well.
