does running under RMS damage your subs? if so, at how many watts under does it become damaging?

as far as I know about speakers running under RMS should'nt damage them, I mean you're not going to blow them, and you should really get an amp that will be withing at least 50 watts of your subb's nominal power rating, like min is rated at 150-450 watt, but the nominal is 50-200 watts rms, and I am running it with a 400 watt max amp. you generally want an amp that can drive your woofer to the brink of it's potential, and if you plan to add more subs later I would recommend going out and getting an amp that will more than handle what you have now. just be sure not to bridge that sucker with one sub or you'll blow that thing apart with a huge amp..

the RATING of an amp will not blow a speaker .... what blows a speaker is overpowering it. If you force enough power out of a smaller amp, it will blow a speaker (by overheating it). The best way to avoid the problem is to learn to hear when you're subs are stressing bad.

i have a 700s hooked up to 2 rockford he2 12's. the RMS is 400 but each sub is getting 350. someone said that i could blow the subs or voicecoil cuz i'm going under RMS. is that possible w/this setup?

RMS is the constant power that an amp runs. Meaning that it is more realistic than the watts that probably comes on the advertisement. (i.e. 1000 watt amp really is about 500 rms) In my example the 1000 watts is the peak tested. If it gets that high at a constant then you are about to blow something.

I'm running a Power series 800.2 (960 continuous watts bridged) to 2 he2 12's and they'll only bottom if I've got the gains all the way up.. and then only on heavy bass tracks. You can underpower with no problem, but if you're gonna push the limits, know how to listen to when your speakers are beggin you to stop.
I've had em' in for a year and no problems yet... then again, I'm not too agressive on em'

RMS is found by taking the peak power and mulplying it by .707 that gives a close rule of thumb and the only amp it doesn't apply to are the digtal ones. NO YOU WONT BLOW YOUR VOICE COILS BY RUNNING UNDER RMS!!! to answer your question

The guy that this comes from is named Richard Clark. He's an EE with 20+ years of recording experience, and retired undefeated from the car stereo competion scene. You are WAY off base, and have made yourself look completely ridiculous. Try learning some facts, before you put other people down.
