trooper shudder jumping

from a stop sometimes the trooper will surge shudder jump whatever a few times then take off...? its a 2001. so i'm thinking plugs,battery,throttlebody cleaning, fuel filter.
anything else i should look for? or anything else i should get for it?
i dont know anything about these engines. what is the torque for the plugs? thanks for your input. josh.

First thing would be to take it and have it checked for Error Codes.

Auto or manual trans?

auto trans, can this be checked with the OB port? or a dealer thing?

Yes, you need an ODD-II scanner. Any parts store will do it for free around here.
Some codes are Isuzu specific, so some scanners will just show the number but no description. If so post the code here.
The reason I asked if it was an auto is because there's a switch connected to the shifter linkage that can go bad and cause a number of driveability issues.

in the summer i did the plugs boots battery fuel and air filter. no change.
fluid is full in the trans. where and how do i check the switch? could it be the cv joints? or the driveshaft?

Have you checked for error codes yet? If any have been stored it help you solve your problem.

The transmission mode switch is a common problem. It gets worn and dirty and does not send the ECM the proper info (what gear is selected). It can cause all kinds of problems.
If you Search the forum you should find several threads on it. I can't remember if mine caused any error codes when it went bad.
