99 2dr 4x4 shudder

I have a problem with my 99 tahoe that started this last couple weeks.
If I am on a long incline at any speed the truck starts to shudder and feels like my drive shaft is oval. There is also an oder that smells alot like clutch. If I take my foot off the gas and slow down it will go away and I can resume unless I am still going up the hill then it starts again.
Runs fine at any speed on flat. Any thoughts ?
