ABS reset

After I finished putting my new front pads in and rotating my tires I took it for a test drive and the brakes feel spongy.They were nice and firm before I started.I was told by a mechanic I had to reset my ABS by pulling the negative battery cable off for awhile.

I took it off last night and left it off till this morning.If this doesn't work what else can I try?I know I'm a pest with all these posts but I can't help it.You guys are better than having a Chiltons.plus this car is new to me so I want to learn learn learn.

Did you seat the pads right by multiple stops with firm, constant brake pedal pressure from 35 mph? Check to see if moving the caliper pistons out displaced or damaged their seals by checking for leaks. Bleed or re-bleed your brakes if anything happened with fluid.

The brakes seem to feel better after resetting the abs.They do still feel a little soft but I'm guessing thats from the new pads?the old ones were really worn out.Paper thin in fact.

krivasauto I wasn't aware of or told anything about seating the pads.I brought my wife to work this morning so wouldn't normal breaking seat them?Or is that why they still feel a little soft?I checked for leaks and there doesn't seem to be any.

Brake pedal feel is very subjective, so what is soft to one person may indicate something else to another. Brake bleeding procedure varies depending on which brake system you have. The Bosch doesn't require running the ABS pump, the Delco system does. Do you have the 3.8 or the 3.5

O'k I got ya.So lets say the way they felt to me before and the way they feel to me now is softer.I have the 3.8 liter.I did the seating procedure and they feel the same so I'm guessing they were already seated or I still have an issue.

I could possibly not have an issue at all and its just my imagination.When I did the seating procedure I got up to 35mph,hit the brakes and came to a complete stop in like 30 feet or so.Is this about right?I didn't have to use allot of force on the peddle.

I would like to know the correct bleeding procedure on mine though.I was told to bleed them with the key in the "acc" position.i did notice when I bled them I got this loud whine from the rear passenger side.That was the only side that made noise.
