I did the timing belt job like 6 times...... outcome was always a miss cyl 3, and random misfire. I have a 1997 contour, 4 cyl. Now I can't find any articles with pictures which would show the correct position of the camshaft according to lobe direction upon install of new timing belt. I believe my timing is a few degrees off and this is the last time I wanna do this job. I have a piece of steel to put in the back of the camshafts but couldn't either cam still be a 180 degrees off? please help..... Originally this cars larger idler pulley broke apart causing it to skip time.

The slot in the back of the cams is off set. You can only have the tool inserted with the cams in the correct position.
