I have a 94 XFI, 1.0L, 5 speed. The XFIís job is to cover the 2150 miles from Illinois to California. It has to operate more or less continuously, at high speed with AC on, in highway conditions like climbing mountains, or crossing desserts. Has anyone used or know if I can use 5w-30w under extreme heat and load operating conditions?

5W-30 is the recommended oil for any Suzuki four cylinder, anywhere in the world, any weather conditions. Synthetic is always better than conventional oil, but I don't even see what your planning as hard use. Stop and Go city traffic and starting your engine at 10į F are much harder on the engine.

Thanks thatís good to know that Suzuki recommends it, I have been running 10w-30w. Yep city driving and cold weather do actually put more wear on the whole car. A couple years ago I ran a Mitsubishi 3.0L with 5w-30w across. On I-15, temps were 128+f going up the rise west of Las Vegas all the way to San Bernardino mountains. Afterwards the upper engine was noisy. It may have happened anyway but suspect the oil broke down.
