I went to a wrecking yard and found a car like mine, with the air controller (Temp, Air, Vent and air speed) in perfect condition. Mine has the paint rubbed off on the front buttons.
I put it in and found that when you push the button, each one has the yellow line light work (tells you that button is on). The temp and fan speed back light is on. When I turn on the lights, the dash lights up, except the back lights to each button (lights up the white labels). I wanted to solder new lights in the newer one, but am thinking, what is the chance everything works like it does, but every single button light?
I've seen ones where two or four lights are out, but everyone? Maybe it's something else? Anybody have experience with the heater control unit?
Thank you,
Chris.

I currently have the same problem. I have not fixed the problem but I know where the problem is. My problem is in my headlight switch to the right of the steering wheel. Its a bad switch, if I jiggle it it will light up. I just need to fix the jiggle issue. I highly doubt all of the lights are burned out.

Thanks for the reply.
Each button (inside) has a clear light, plus, there is two or three blue lights. I'm now thinking the each clear lights might be what shows up as yellow when you have that button active. The blue lights may be the background. It would be more believable to think 3 lights could go out as a poised to all 10 clear ones.
Since the other one worked good, then I put this one in and it doesn't, plus I replaced the light switch last year, it probably is not the switch on mine. Good thing to add though, since this could be read by others searching for the problem in the future.
I did find I can take off the outside black part to each button, so I replaced the two that where worn. Still would like to replace it, since the new(er) one lights up the yellow so much brighter, and seems to be more tighter moving the controls.

If its the bulbs it will be the bulbs with the blue covers.
The Bulb needed is radio shack part number 272-1092, its a 2 pack. <-- Thats the bulb I used to replace my steering wheel lights, guessing here, but it should be the same.
Just solder and replace the blue covers.

Just solder and replace the blue covers. That light is not even close to what's inside. Way to small.
I had it checked out and the lights all work (direct to the light). I've seen ones with 4 out, 2 out, and all, like mine. Something else is going on. Wish I knew more about this unit to know where the problem is. The electic repairman looked at it with a powerful magnifying glass and didn't see any obvious signs of a problem.
The forum seems less input for a while. I am hoping I didn't make anyone mad. If I did, I'm sorry.
