Started it up today and there was alot of clunking when it would turn the key then it started up and rev'd up to about 1800 rpm then dropped to its normal idle then I tried to put it in drive and didnt go in to same with reverse and the rest. Checked the fluid and it where it was just the other month when i checked it. Is it time for a new one or is something smaller??

4W or 2W?
Does it make noise cranking or after it strats or when put in gear?
If no go and full of fluid and converter bolts hooked up tight then the transmission is broke inside.
Pull pan and see if any metal in bottom of pan.
If 4W make sure transfer case is in gear and no ujoints or swhaft splines broke.
Does drive shaft turn when truck is sitting still in gear?

2 wheel drive
Will go out and check into if the drive shaft turns or not.
Will post back what I find

When I move the shift lever to something other then park or neutral it sounds like I can hear a tiny click noise but its just a single click.

What do you mean by converter bolts?... Torque converter bolts??
Kinda weird..the other day i started it and the usual clunking noise the there was a ping type noise but i just turned it off and walked away cause i was busy with something else. But later that day i moved it and found a bolt about 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches in length..???...

i assume that was with the rear tires in the air?

not sure about the auto's, but i know with the manual trans, there is a good viewing window in the bellhousing where you can see if the clutch/flywheel is turning.... maybe you can see if the torque converter is moving.

Cranking or engine running or after you put it in gear?

Yes transmission converter bolts.
Also if you found other bolts under it jack mit up and put on JACK STANDS And have a look and see under there.

Also make sure transmission to engine bolts are all tight and not missing.

Post back what you find there.

I hear it mainly when i attempt to start it up but now after it wont go in drive anymore now I don't hear it at all anytime. But before that it was a loud obnoxious sound when i would start and it would continue for a about 2 seconds after it started.

Any idea where the bolt came from I included a picture of it hopefully it loads with the post. I measures 7/8" long from end to end.

May be a converter to flywheel bolt.
Pull splash cover and have a look in there.
Should be 3 bolts converter to flywheel.
Make sure they are all there and tight.
And be sure to check transmission to engine bolts.

Took the cover off the flywheel and torque converter and sure enough the bolts securing the flywheel to the torque converter are gone. Gonna go get three new ones the same size as the one i found underneath it.

Whats a good way to go about install the new torque converter to flywheel bolts? Read something about have to get all 3 started before putting them down. Should I use thread locker?

That explains thge nois and no transmission going into gear.

New OEM bolts come with tread locker on them.
Start one at a time and srew it almost up tight but leave it lose enough that converter will rock/turn a little.
Get all three in before final tighten up.

One question how did the bolts get out of splash cover?
And make sure the transmission to engine bolts are tight>

Got the new bolts put it in. Starts good and goes into gear as it should.
As far as how the bolts got out I've only owned this blazer for about 10 months now and the guy I bought it from was to honest about all the problems I've fixed prior to this one happening so I am kind of wondering if he was in there working on it or doing something and was just to lazy to rotate the motor to put all 3 back in or something. A few things I noticed over time suggest that it sat for a year or at least a couple months. And not to mention out of the 4 bolts that held the splash cover on only 1 remained so it there were gaps pretty much all around. Not sure if that's due to the vibration coming from the flywheel and torque converter or just another example of the shotty work by the previous owner. But would probably explain how the torque converter bolts were able to get past.

Thanks for posting back how it went.
