So today my car wouldnt start at all! I turned the key and got nothing! Took the car to Autozone for testing, my battery was a little low but everything checked out.

Had engine codes that got pulled today and I have a P0442 and a P0401. Now I have had a P0442 before but it went away and now its back and im smelling fuel near my fuel rail. Not sure if it was the EGR causing this smell or not.

With time ive become pretty skilled at fixing things on my cars but now these problems have me lost!

I did my LIM without pulling my injectors out. Is there supposed to be a seal where the fuel lines meet the fuel rail? Im asking because perhaps I need a new one there after disassembling it a year or so ago.

Didn't start? How did you get it to AZ? Cranked or no crank? If you smell fuel, you should be able to track the source.

No crank. Power in car turns on but wouldn't turn over. I gave it a talking to and it started after a few tries. I can smell it in the fuel rail, egr valve area but can't pinpoint it. An tips?

Try talking to it some more, maybe it will fix itself.. :sarcasmsign:

Check the battery cables and terminals for loose or corroded connections, the egr cannot cause fuel leaks or fuel issues.

442 code = you make sure your gas cap is on tight? 3 clicks.

401 egr code. DONT REPLACE THE EGR.

get new throttle body gasket, a tomco kleen-screen egr gasket (+ the plain lower egr gasket) couple cans of throttle body cleaner, wire hangar or pipe cleaners (or both) maybe small brass brush

remove egr, clean it up, remove the throttle body, and clean the air passage between the throttle body and egr. clean throttle body. suggest not removing the iac. hit it with TB cleaner tho.

remove throttle body butterfly (torx bolts i think) clean thoroughly with throttle body cleaner.

make sure flexable egr tube isnt clogged

dont attempt to clean out the inside of the uppper intake manifold (big port) its a useless effort... just clean the small egr passage in the upper intake manifold

might hit the iac shaft with some wd40 or other light lube

check the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator if there is any fuel in the hose at all even a drop the regulator is bad

Thanks for the EGR info. Will give that a try!

As for my gas cap. I replace it and its on tight. I start school in august and want to knock all these probs out now :).

Instead of removing TB butterfly, get old toothbrush & tb cleaner & brush butterfly plate after hitting w/tb cleaner. Too easy to damage or loose screws.
