I am looking at one of these trucks for purchase and I am wondering what if any issues to be aware of on this year/model. I have heard rumors of issues with this motor.
Anybody have any input before I plunk down the cash?

well the 6.0 is a good motor but some issues are the egr gets plugged thats a big$ fix also if you put tuners on them with big turbo boost the will blow head gaskets and that requiers head studs to fix and remove body of frame to get the heads off big big money its best to find one stock or look for the last of the 7.3 i beleive 04 was the last yr for the 7.3

NO, don't buy a 6.0 period. They are trash for anyone who has owned a 7.3.
03 was the last year for the 7.3. 6.4's pass everything but the station, and they are big money to fix pretty much anything. If you ever have intentions of putting a chip or anything on it, 00 and down. The 01 and up have powdered metal rods and rumor says only good for about 400. I had a 97, bad mamba jamba and not a minutes trouble.

So let me ask you a few questions regarding your comments:
1) Why do you think the 6.0 is junk? because they had head gasket issues untill you stud them?
2) We tune 6.4s everyday making 585 to the wheels and getting 24 mpg.
3) I think someone has pulled you leg on the "powdered rods" cast iron is powdered? Either way 99-03 bottom end never changed, dont take it from me, call Navistar and ask them.
4) Another bit about the 7.3 and 6.0, I had a 02 7.3 regular cab putting down 731 to the wheels with stock bottom end. We just twin turboed a 06 amarillo puttin down 1050 hp on motor alone. Call them junk now?
