1990 F150 Clutch/Tranny Problems

Hey everyone, Ive got a 1990 F150 4.9 6CYL 5SPD. I took it on an hour long trip up to my sisters, coming off the highway the clutch went to the floor and I had nothing. I pulled off shut it off for a couple minutes and looked under the hood for anything obvious and I saw nothing. I started it back up and I had clutch again although it seemed weaker than normal. I made it to my sisters but the transmission seemed to be making a 'rolling' noise. I figured I would let it cool down for an hour or so and try it again like maybe it was too hot, so I went out after started it in neutral and was letting the clutch out and it just makes a grinding noise, same thing seems to happen in any gear. Does it grind in gear? Dead clutch is usually a sign of a leaky slave which also might cause the throwout bearing to grind. It is going to require a bit of investigation before you figure anything out.

Probably a failing slave cylinder, which is all one piece with the throwout bearing. If you screw the cap off your clutch master cylinder AND DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE THAT RUBBER CUP UNDER THE CAP and add dot 3 brake fluid and keep adding as necessary, you may be able to nurse it along for quite a while before removing the transmission to replace the slave cylinder.
