'09 Corolla KeyFOB, keyless entry programming Question

Hey everybody,

I just purchased a 2009 Corolla LE "demonstrator" from the pre-owned lot at my local Toyota dealer. They only had one aftermarket (Ingenuity) key on-site and it was NOT the type with the remote built in. Remote keyless entry is a godsend as I often have my hands full of kids and/or work items. I did check the VIN with the service department to make sure it had the factory keyless system installed, which it does.

I was able to obtain a blank OEM 4-button key/remote and have it cut and "synced" so that it starts the car without a problem (for significantly less than what the dealer wanted). However, I can't for the life of me get the remote part programmed!

I have followed the procedures time after time with the same result (I know, definition of insanity). I put a new battery in the remote... no luck. As I cycle through the procedure (insert/remove key 2x, open/close door 2x, etc) everything works as it should, but when I get to the step where I have to "press and hold lock AND unlock buttons for 1.5 seconds, then within 3 seconds, press and release the lock button" NOTHING happens.http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/images/smilies/headbang.gif

Am I missing something or is this a defective key?? Though this key wasn't as costly as the dealer's price, it certainly wasn't worth it if it's CRAP!

Any help, insights, suggestions are welcomed.

Make sure you aren't touching the brake pedal at all during programming.
