Can I use just normal motor oil in my tranny? I know I should use transmission specific oil but will this hurt? I should only have the engine in for another couple weeks at most and just want it to shift smooth right now.

Your owner's manual or shop manual will instruct you to use 10W30 or 10W40.
I recommend using Castrol brand.
That's the official Honda recommendation, good ol' fashioned motor oil.

PS-I freaked out the first time I heard that. I thought all standard transmissions used 90Wgear oil.

You are talking about a manual transmission, aren't you?
Flunky
PS-IF you're car's got an automatic, 10w40 would probably kill it.

We had a thread about this a few days ago... I was asking what kind of tranny fluid to get, and I was told to get Honda Manual Tran. Fluid. I've also heard that GM Synchromesh and Redline are good.
I went to the dealership and picked up 3 quarts of the Honda MTF for $16 and I'm going to put it in today.

Hi, Ci5ic-
I have travelled many happy miles on the good ol' motor oil.
Since I'm a cheap bastard, way too cheap to pay $16 for 3 quarts, I'll keep using the Castrol.
Although I am really tempted to try out the GM synchromesh. I've got some worn synchronizers, it might help stop 'em from bitching.

PS-I was dredging through the threads on page 213 of this forum. It's incredible how much Honda knowledge you have amassed in such a short time. And what the hell is that THING you're using for an avatar? I think if I drank too much coffee and didn't sleep for two days, it might talk to me...
